Ok I've been in full size Ford F-150s since 94. My wife and I were looking for a new truck as our last one was kicking 130k in the you know what.
So she sees this 05 Dakota on a lot, I was looking for the full size SLT. My company has been buying Dodge full size for several years now and we have had good luck with them.
So I say, NO it's too small. The wife is 5'0" and I'm 6'2". The salesman says, "why don't you drive it?" So we did.
Needless to say, I am now the proud owner of a 05 quad SLT V-8 Dakota. It's got plenty of room, and lots of power, and so far, it's getting better gas mileage than the F150 4.6 v8 we had.
Great Truck, I would recommend one to anybody.

I can't say much for the new body styling, but they are still nice trucks. Interior is as spacious and comfortable as ever. Glad you are liking your Dak, and I hope it lasts a long time for you. :)

Welcome 05REDQUAD! While I'm not real fond of the new body style, they are good rigs. Did you get the H.O. 4.7L, or standard 4.7L? I believe you will be happy with your decision to buy the Dakota. My dad has a '01 F-150 'Crew Cab' (or whatever Ford calls the 4 dr. version). It has the 5.3L and it is a beautiful truck. You know what? I prefer my Dakota over his Ford any day! I initially thought his Ford would put my Dak to shame (his Ford is really nice .....loaded), but after driving it several times I have to say my Dak feels tighter, handles better and feels more powerful and seems to accelerate better. Just my .02 cents.
Again, congratulations on your purchase, and I hope your Dak brings you as much pleasure as mine has!

Oops! I believe his F-150 has a 5.4L not a 5.3L as I stated above. I'm not awake yet! LOL!

After driving the truck for over a week now I like it even better. I had a 02 F150 with the 4.6 v8 , this 4.7, not even the HO, has about 10 more hp, and is more like driving a sports car, than a truck.
The wife loves it, she gets in and out easier, and she's still high enough to see in traffic.
We had to drive my daughters mustang for a week last year, and she felt like she was in a go kart.
I liked playing with the mustang, since i had three as a kid, but as a daily commuter, I like to be up higher where I can see what's going on ahead. Sitting next to my son in laws Z71 in the driveway the DAK is not much shorter, and with four doors, it's nearly as long.
Still a believer.

I hear you 05REDQUAD. All I can say is whoever buys my truck ('01 Dak 4.7 CC) will be getting one hell of a truck. The ONLY reason I am selling it is the oldest kid will be hitting college this fall and I need the extra cash I will be saving in gas when I get something with better gas mileage. I get 18 to 19 per gallon which isn't bad for a V8, but I need something that gets 30+ mpg. I drive 60 miles round trip each day for work (95% highway miles) and put about 20k miles per year on the truck. God I wish gas prices would come down so I can keep it, but that isn't going to happen.

Have fun with yours and as long as you can afford to keep gas in it, keep it for a long time. You will find people on here who bought a Dak and say they hate it. There are always some lemons in the bunch no matter who makes the vehicle. I find most people complaining about their vehicle but only after they have modded the crap out of it. Mine is stock, runs great and looks great. If you do have problems with it, this board is a great place to information on it. Lot of good folks who post regularly on this site.

I hear ya about gas Obiewon, but this is getting better than the ford we traded in. We also commute around 60 miles each day, my wife works about 2 miles from my job and the hours are the same. Doesn't make sense to run two vehicals over the same 60 miles of road.
We have to have a truck for several reasons. We have a horse, so hay and feed fit better in the bed. I hunt, and need the space for my gear, guns in the backseat, coolers, dry boxes etc in the bed. I used to load my four wheeler in the truck, but got a small trailer for it. The DAK shouldn't even know that's back there.
So far we are getting around 22 mpg, not bad as long as you keep your foot out of it. That's not easy to do. I keep looking down and I'm doing 70+.

That is damn good gas mileage. When you haul what you have to, a neon just won't do it. I'd like to keep my truck longer since it would come in handy hauling my daughter and her "stuff" to college in the fall, but luckily, I have a friend who trusts me enough to borrow his truck if I would need it.

Enjoy your Dak. The three years I have had mine so far have been good. I'd just like to slap the oil exec's for being so damn greedy.

Hey 05REDQUAD, first off: welcome and enjoy your great truck. I'm sure you'll find that it can take whatever load you throw at it with gusto and have more left over.

The usual cruising speed I find myself doing is around 80. It's hard for me to go much slower. :-)

What's your left foot doing?
