Subject: Tundra now has a 5.7 too???
IP: Logged

Message:
Looks like Toyota has a 5.7 of their own now.
Now their Tundra gets either a 4.0 V6, 4.7 V8, or a 5.7 V8.
Maybe with Dodge sticking the 5.7 Hemi into nearly EVERYTHING except for the Dakota has prompted this from Toyota?

Well, have you seen the new, redesigned Tundra coming out in 2007? It was shown at the Chicago Auto Show. It honestly looks like a pug-nose Dodge Ram.

Just remember, this is with the redesigned 2007 Tundra.

Along with the 5.7, the Tundra will also have over a 10,000 pound towing capacity.

Aside from Dodge, I do like the Nissan trucks though. Nissan is "supposed" to be coming out with a 3/4 ton Titan sometime in the next few years. Lets hope they come out with a diesel engine and bigger rear axle for it!

That's the site I came acrossed that gave the info.

Also on there I saw the Titan was rated the WORST for reliablity. But on the other hand the Ridgeline the best. So goes to show you reports are not very accurate. Since they group in a soccer mom SUV used for LIGHT DUTY into the TRUCK reliability ratings. Sheesh!

I'm not surprised. I think and hope a lot of that comes from that tiny rear axle they have the Titan. In an attempt to out do the F150; Nissan rated the thing for towing over nine thousand pounds but put a Dana 30 rear axle on it.

If you happen to be behind a Titan, take a look at the pumkin, the diff cover is covered in cooling fins.

Yeah, I've seen the small diffs on them Titan's. I could not believe it.

One guy at the track said that they do the gearing I=inside the transmission. LOL! I think maybe the Nissan dealer filled him with a bunch of bull!

Also the Titan has the starter on TOP of the engine under the intake. YIKES!

Just checked out the underside of the tundra at www.toyota.com It looks like it has 4 catalytic converters total. I recently visited a mechanics shop where he was trying to pass a newer ford taurus (1998-2002). It would meet par at 10MPH and exceed the limit at 25MHP by quite a bit. He was waiting for a special part order of a dual catalytic converter for a single flow exhaust system on this Ford Taurus. It costed the owner of the car $800 for the part and $80 per/hour for labor. I was at the same shop passing smog there three weeks eariler and replaced the cat. for $320 total including labor. My dakota is a 1989. Things are getting a little out of touch in terms of money here California. Up the block from my uncles house in San Mateo, California a house there is selling for $987,000. My uncle bought his house in 1977 for $97,000. In 1986, gas prices were $0.93 per/gallon, *under a dollar.* Currently gas here in the bay area is about $2.55 per/gallon.
Thanks for the rant,...rav,....

P.S. I should start selling drugs. LOL. That way I could keep up with the times. LOL

That fully boxed frame explains why the Durango can tow so much more than the Dakota.

My 1999 Dakota doesn't have a fully boxed frame and I fairly positive the 2000-2004 Dakota's don't either.

The tow hooks on the front are for other trucks to pull them out.

I believe that the Titans have Dana 44's. But still sought of small for newer 1/2 ton standards.

Also if you read the T.T review. They had to replace an axel.

Right now I'm looking at the new Tundra. Look like a crossover from the Dakota and fullsize Ram.

To bad they did't build a HD truck with a Cat Diesal.

Now I just wonder what the power rating is going to be for the new Toyota truck?

Isn't the Dana 44 one of the best diffs. you can get? Isn't it what all the "crazy" jeep rock crawlers and mud boggers have? That one and the ford 9"?

All I know is looking at the Nissan rear axle, it's no where NEAR a 9 inch ring gear.

It is puny.

I know that but what I was saying is that it couldn't be a Dana 44 because those are used in heavy duty situations like rock crawling, and they use the ford 9" also for heavy duty conditions. I agree the titan rear end is a weak point.

yes the dana 44 is a great axle and came stock on a lot of 4x4s in the 80s. the Titan so called LSD diff just puts the brake on the wheel that is spinning. so you have a pig-legger that wears both tires evenly but not at the same time.:/

here is an example.
