Back to the original question, I'd go for the 318/5-speed. It will be the quickest if you did the same mods to all the engines.
I change the oil filter through the wheel well without removing the wheel.
I still think the 318 sounds the best compared to the 360 or 287. Cammed or not. I should have my cutout WELDED in maybe next week (I found out that my school's auto shop can do it.)
I have to admit it is a lot easier to change cams in a 4.7 compared to the 318! but the one advantage we have is we can do 1.7 roller rockers which is a lot easier than any cam swap.
Another thing that the 4.7 and 5.7 have to worry about that the 318 and 360 don't is exhaust backpressure.
Overall I still think the 318/360 are easier to work on.

My uncle has a 2001 Dodge Ram with rear door that has 170k miles and runs excellent with the 318. I don't see why they got rid of the 318. That was one of the most durable engines alive. Beats 4.7L in a LOT of ways. Gas mileage isnt much better with the 4.7 neither, just a lot more unnecessary sophistication.

They replaced the 318 (5.2L) with the 287 (4.7L) the same reason Ford replaced the 302 (5.0L) with the 281 (4.6L)

Why would back pressure effect the other engines differently????

I have the 4.7 and my bro in law the 318.

Each time we did the similar exhaust. They sounded identical!

Except, mine runs 1000 RPM's HIGHER than his WHEN I want it to :p

Ok. Here's a COOL sound from his truck recently.
2WD 318. Turbo limited at 5 PSI and a glass pack.

sorry I meant the 5.7 HEMI really is wacked when it comes to backpressure and low end torque. A lot of members at dodgetalk.com have had problems when they open up their exhaust too much.
I enjoy visiting your website alot. It gave me alot of ideas back when I was looking for a 4.7 Dak.

this is a pic of my truck when we got that snowstorm that set a new record in New York. So far I haven't got it stuck in anything yet. Maybe growing up in the north ain't so bad! A branch did fall and break my ventshade, so I just took them off and I think it looks better now.
I don't think I've gone through anything as deep as you did in those videos.

At least the roads where plowed :)

I finally cleaned my truck up a bit since the last snow romp.

The paint actually don't look to bad now that I shined it up a bit.
