hey guys i wanted to put headers on my 94 slt 4x4 but it has 153000 miles and im hearing good idea and bad idea from alot of people does anyone think it would give me more power or just bring me back to what it was when it was new? what are the down sides to doing this?

Headers will produce power at the upper ranges in conjunction with other parts. On a stock engine, they may actually lose power.

So it depends on what your future goals are. If it's a workhorse and daily commuter, then no, it's not worth it. If you plan on racing it with a better intake or maybe a blower, then yes, it is worth it.

However, if I had a motor with 150K miles and was was planning on racing, the first thing I would do is rebuild the motor with racing in mind: better heads, intake, cam, more compression, etc. That's where headers make a significant differance.

However, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I've known people to add headers on plenty of vehicles that they wanted more overall grunt such as for towing.
I've never known headers to LOSE power at any RPM. Unless someone installs them with OPEN exhaust.

Headers with a full exhaust should add some power especially up high, but should not lose anything.

I'd slap a pair of FULL LENGTH on mine if they made a pair for under $600 :(
