I have a 2000 Dakota 5.9 R/T and I'm having transmission problems. The gears are all shifting later than they're supposed to and in order to get them to shift I have to be easy on the gas. Why is this? How should I fix it and how much is it going to cost.

I really want to fix this problem before it gets any worse and any amount of help would be appreciated. Thank you

lenderl@gmail.com email me with any questions about it or suggestions.

Thanks!

Ender,
Is your RT Auto or stick. I'm guessing it is an auto. So check the throttle valve cable. it is thr cable that runs from the trans to the throttle body, make sure it is not streched.or just make sure it is adjusted properly.

Well that would be all and well if I knew HOW to adjust it.

I guess I should say my knowledge on actually working on engines is nill. It's something I've always wanted to do but have never had the opportunity to learn.

It may be asking a little much for more detailed instructions of what I should do but if someone could please help me I'd very much appreciate it.

Ender,
Do you have a Haynes manual or chilton manual?
either of those will tell you exactly how to adjust the throttle valve cable, and where it is located.

Take a 10' peice of clear tubing (maybe 3/8) and snake it into the dipstick tube. If you hit brown stuff you stuck it in the wrong hole, try the other one. Suck on it (HA HA verrrry FuNnY you perverts) until the fluid is just about ready to pop out the end then squeeze real hard so the fluid doesn't come out or flow back,,,

Stick your "tube" into a 1qt bottle and let it flow until the bottle is full. This could take a loooong time to get a quart, all depends on the size of your tube ;-)
