I'm considering buying a 2003 QC 4x4 4.7L V8 AWD. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the AWD? How much does it hurt gas mileage?
Another question about tires. This truck has 245/70R16 on it that I'm pretty sure the dealer put on after it was traded in (Hyundai dealer...). I don't know what it had originally, but I want 265/70R16s. Does either tire fit any 03 with the 8 inch rims? Are adjustments required?

Hey Chris,
I have an 03 CC 4.7 4X4.
It's not full time AWD but my stock tires are 265/70R16s. Be sure to get a Car Fax report, and check to make sure that all the recalls have been addressed. Good luck.

Eh... dosen't hurt to get a carfax but my 03 4.7 4x4 cc auto came with 245s stock.As for what tires will fit I think you'd be fine with 265s but that's just a guess.

Buy that truck, you will not be disappointed. I love my 03 QC 4X4 AWD. It averages 14 mpg around town, but I recently got 18.5 on a 600 mile trip to Bass Lake. As far as off-roading, I can go everywhere the guys with Jeeps go.
I am currently running 265/75/16s on stock suspension with no rubbing at all, even at full lock.

Mine cam with the 245's stock as well. Have 255/65's now. May go taller next time around.
Look at the switch in the dash. If it says 2HI, 4HI 4LO, it's a 4X4 like mine.
If it says AWD in the left most posistion then it is AWD where there is no running just 2HI.
Either way it's a great truck.

have a 2000 dakota 4x4 awd ext cab myself. it's for sale but that's another issue. i got 14 mpg over with it, once 18 babying it on the highway to ohio. awd trucks seem to get the same or 1 less than 4x4. do any v8 4x4's get 15 avg? i'm getting 16-17 in my 04 v8 2wd i just bought.
if it has awd it automaticly came with 3.92 gears to help motivate the truck off the line. you will have slight powertrain loss compared to regular 4x4. if you are a racing kind of guy get 4x4 or 2wd. if you live where there is much snow, that truck was AWESOME in snow or mud. just incredible. my .02
