i know this has been talk about before, but does anyone use, or has used the Hypertech programmer? everyone talks about the superchips programmer, but they dont make one for the 97 dakota. just would like some input on the hypertech before i bbuy one. any help would be great! thanks

I used it on my '01 5.9 4x4. I should have done it a lot sooner. The truck really runs a lot better. I choose the Hypertech because it was a lot cheaper, and I had no need of the additional features the Superchips had - raising red line, adjusting for tire size.

I tried out both the 89 and the 91 tune. The 89 tune made a huge differance in performance and driveability. fuel mileage was slightly improved, if I wasn't too hard on the throttle.

But at the 91 tune it knocked and pinged on premium fuel, and economy took a nose dive. If there was a performance improvement over the 89 tune, I couldn't feel it.

When towing in the summertime, I had to be carefull with the throttle or it would ping. So I used a 180* thermostat and a bottle of water wetter and that stopped.
