Anyone know if the trans can be tuned to keep the OD from dropping out so easily. Or is this an actual gear ratio in the trans? Since I changed to 33s the OD drops out quick even at 70-75mph on the slightest grade. Any ideas?

Thanks

I think that is something you are going to have to live with. I think the trans OD senses torque and since you went to a higher ratio (taller tires) it is more sensitive to the change of a lesser grade and shifts to keep the engine in a safer and more workable RPM range. I don't know if it can be adjusted. I'm sure one of these "smarter than I" guys will know and be able to give you better advice. Good luck with that.

Yep. You're gonna have to live with it as long as you keep the 33's on it.
Here in the Pacific Northwest, the small hills and constant grade changes have me leaving overdrive off until I get above 60mph or so, just so the trans won't hunt so much. I have stock 265/70-16 tires (31").

I don'e have the bigger tires, but one thing I would check is the TSP. If it is like the one I had, it will give false acceleration indications. Just take it out and look at it, when looking at it look for little cracks. This may not help you, but it can't hurt.

Hey Red99DakR/T.

Just where is this Torque Positioning Sensor on the engine?
I know about the Throttle Positioning Sensor, but I never heard of this Torque Positioning Sensor thingy.

When you're looking at the engine from the front, look at the carburator on the right side. It has 3 wires going to it and 2 screws hold the TPS on.

i think im having the same problem. i also have 98 dakota,4x4,5.2,slt, tuff country 5.5 lift 33's and the same thing is happing the od is not droping out, it will stay in od but the rpms will jump when im driving about 70mph from 1650 rpms to about 1850 rpms. i wonder if i change the gear ratio from 3.55 to 3.90 or 4.10 this would stop the rpms from jumping. i know i will be at a higher rpm because of gear ratio change. i my self have changed the tps sensor and it didnt change anything.
