I have a question for all of you. I have had my check engine light come on and I did the key trick to see which code it was. I don't recall the number but it stated basically Rich fuel. I then went to an auto parts store (Advanced) and used their computer. Theirs said less than I already knew all they said was Rich fuel. I was hoping it would say which sensor is bad but no luck.

So anyone with this that can help would be appreciated.

On another note I also have a bad check valve in the fuel pump so I have to prime it before starting. I believe the light came on while idling after I reset it so replacing the pump may resolve it but wanted to hear your opinions first.

It is a 95 4x4 with a 318 and 22 gal tank if this helps.

Unless you have proof that the check valve is bad, it sounds more like a stuck injector. If its stuck open, it will bleed off the fuel pressure as soon as you turn off the key. It will also give you a rich condition.

How is your mileage?

It's no uncommon to get a stuck injector, esicially on our returnless fuel system.

You can get them tested, or better yet replace them for around $300.

Crow the only proof I have is the pressure test that was performed by a mechanic. I would guess that they would see a difference based on where they attach the gage right?

My milage is as I would think. All short trips (5-10 miles in town, no traffic) I get around 12-14 and on the highway about 15-16 @75 or so.

If it would be the injectors is there a test I could do to determine this? The pump is about $300 too. I would hate to replace that only to find out my pump was fine and now need to spend the money on an injector instead.

Something else which may help is the idle is rough when warm. I did replace plugs/wires and cap along with the PCV valve and breather valve where the last 2 seemed to correct it for a short time but not any more.

There are places that can test your injectors. If I were you, I would take them off myself and bring them somewhere that has a bench tester. You can call a dealer, but you may have better luck at a speed shop. The cost for the test varies greatly depending on who you find. I have seen as low as $5 each ($40)to as high as $100 for a set.

You may be able to search this site or other sites for a DIY test.

If it had rough idle all the time, I would say bad pump. If its only when its warm, I would say bad injector.

Thanks again. I ran some more injector cleaner through it so I will see. Last time it was the black bottle of STP. This time I found an Amsoil PI or something like that. I added the whole 16 oz bottle (should treat something like 25 gal) to my truck and drove about 5 miles then added more gas (~15 gal) so the first 5 miles was only about 7 gallons. Hopefully this really strong combination will clean out but I will see after this tank is empty. I will have to watch for some injector treads that pop up and search for some to see.

You have another option for testing your injectors so see if one is stuck. Its this little box thing you touch to your injector. What it does is pickup the magnetics from the soleniod in the injector and then blicnks a light. There farily cheap I think.

Can you explain this better? Do you take out the injectors or just touch them?

My thoughts are to buy the pump and injectors and then look at the injectors prior to replacing. If they look good go with the pump.
