I have a 2000 Dak 4X4 Quad cab with a 4.7 leter with the C205F front differential. About 10 months ago had to replace the driver's side half shaft and intermediate shaft because they were worn completely out. The CV joint splines where it plugs on to the intermediate shaft was so worn you could nearly remove it without taking anything apart. Now the passenger side is bad and just as bad as the driver's side was before. Have any of you experienced this? My truck has 150,000 miles on it. The damn thing makes such a clunking in the front end that I'm almost afraid to drive it. Oh, and of course the passenger side cost almost twice what the driver's side did.

Well I have an update to this front end issue. What originally was going to set me back $800.00 plus is now only $400.00 for everything. Dodge has superseded all the parts and dropped the price as well.

I still can't figure out why both sides would go out in less than 150,000 miles???

Unless you spend a lot of time with your steering at full lock (lots of U-turns?), shouldn't be wearing out like that.
Does your truck have AWD?

No, it must be shifted into 4X4. I drove mountain roads for quite a while but I still have a hard time excepting both being worn at less than 150K. Dodge couldn't tell me squat! Once I get this other axle and intermediate shaft changed the front end will be like new again. Right now it rattles, clunks and pops like crazy!!! It also has a vibration that was driving me nuts. Now I know where it is coming from. I don't drive it unless I absolutely have to. Next week that will change. I love my Dakota Quad Cab 4X4. It will be nice to have her back.

now im not a good one with part names but ill do my best. i replaced a front drivers side cv axel i think its called (transfers power to front wheels in 4) and now i realized that i also need to replace the thing it plugs into (please help me with terminology) because when my cv axel was blown it wore the teeth down to nothing. can anyone give me some insight as far as price or difficulty of replacing that? me and a buddy work on our vehicles all the time though we dont know part names or terminology (redneck repair)
