I have a 2001 4.7 2wd 5 speed manual. I want to put synthetics in the tranny and diff. Autozone and Napa both gave me the same blank stare. What weight and what are the capacities for both? Can I really only put the Mopar stuff in the tranny?

The mopar stuff is synthetic. Its 15 dollars a quart. (the tranny only holds 2 quarts) I changed mine a 80,000 miles and it looked like new oil.

I have a '01 4.7 5-spd. manual with 128K miles. I replaced the fluid at 100K. From what I have heard, the cold weather performance of the Mopar fluid beats the other brands, so that's what I used. I use Mobil1 5w30 in the 4.7, and Amsoil synthetic in the 9.25 LSD.

Changed tranny NV3500 at 30,000 first time I used Amsoil 10w30. It worked just fine. second change at50,000 used the pennzoil syncromesh from autozone. It works fine too. I'd have probably went with amsoil, but the local dealer really ticked me off.
I changed the rear diff when I changed ratio, used Valvolene Dura blend? It's a semi-senthetic dino blend. I was stuck to a blend because of my LSD. Tranny takes two quarts. 91/4 rear takes a little over two quarts. I ran 75w90 in the rear.

Well, after looking on the AMSOIL website I found that the Amsoil MTF 5-30 is recommended for the NV3500. I will also be purchasing some of their 75-90 for the rear. It says that the LSD additive is not necessary but if their is "chatter" to add it. I think I'll just add it up front and avoid the hassle or potential problems. The factory LSD has a history of breaking prematurely.

Red Line MTL is the stuff to get, part number for a quart is 50204. Makes for much smoother shifts.
