So which would last longer a Poly, LA, or Magnum style 318 and why?

i think it would be close but the magnum seem to hold up like the old LA style engine. i don't think there is any drastic changes other than fuel injection.

i would say the same, just depending on the owner.

Depends on what you mean by "last". Built with the same quality kits, i.e. rings, seals, and bearings, their longevity will be essentially the same. All 360's and 318 LA (from around 1973 up) have heavy-duty rods, but even the light-duty rods are pretty stout. However, in the realm of re-use, the LA and Magnum smallblocks are thinwall castings. Neither can match the overbore capability built into the poly. The poly can easily handle .090" overbore, so when it's ready for a rebuild, just take it out another .010 and go from there. It's also the only 318 that can be opened up like a new 360 to 406 cubes with the 4 inch stroker crank, and the .090 overbore bringing it up to a 4-inch bore. The old poly has the "semi-hemi" head....no slouch with some port work. Single and dual carb intakes are still available.

gen1dak pretty much hit it on the head. the original poly had the beefiest block. It also depends on use and maintenance. A friend of mine is a service mgr @ a major dodge dealer - they run parts tucks across a 5 state area. they routinely put 300K on their parts trucks with no engine or tranny probs.

What are you guys talking about? I've never heard of a poly, I have a magnum. Or the other one you mentioned.

Polyspherical 318 was the original, heavier 318 that came before the LA 318 design, which predated the modern magnum 318.
