Subject: Replacing 3.9 with 5.2...

Message:
My friend just got through rebuilding his Dodge Dart and now his garage is free and he has an engine lift and everything so he told me about a junkyard where I could get a 318 for $150 and he said if I wanted he could help put it in my truck.

So my questions are...
1. I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota RC Sport with the V6 auto, what would I have to do to the supsension to convert it to handle a V8?
2. How could I change the auto to stick, are there any kits?
3. How can I make it pass emissions, he said that they go by the year of the engine and not the year of the truck when you do an engine swap?
4. What will I have to do with my computer?
5. What else do y'all know that I have to do?

He already knows a guy that can do the wiring for me and he said the 318 would be the best engine to get just because it is an easy engine to work with and upgrade. I'm already expecting to have to do a serious rebuild on the engine considering it only costs $150, if it can be done then I plan on doing some major tweaking to the engine, my goal for me is to hit the 300 HP mark with this engine. Thanks for any help!

1. Get front coils from a V8 Dakota.
2. Since the 318 had the option of a 5 speed manual, I would suggest searching junkyards for a trans, pedal assembly, flywheel, manual trans center console, and a computer from a 1999 5 speed v8 dakota. Probably a driveshaft from a RC 5 speed too.
3. No Clue
4. As far as I know, all you would need is a computer from a 5 speed v8 dakota, you might need a 1999 computer, but not 100% sure.
