Subject: 94' Dakota 318 Timing?

Hi Ladies & Gents...
I ran across this site, as I have bought a 94 Dakota with a 318. Now Im not much of a mechanic, but I can do some things, I'd just like yalls opinon on this, as this story lays out:
I had a water loss problem, ran this truck hot, I mean HOT, probably 2 or 3 times, it never went dead as a result of being run hot though, fixed the problem ( by pass hose, have learned Dodge is notorious for them) the day the bypass hose was fixed, I picked it up at my neighbors house, (mechanic) and it shook like crazy, ( cold start up of course) but as it warmed it got better.
I run it about a month, then off to Town one night, it started skipping, just happen to be pulling into Autozone, so I decided plugs and oil needed changing after it ran hot so much. Let me back up to say on the way to town that night I had a really big backfire...! So I go home, next day change plugs, change oil & filter...
But I have this thing in my exhaust..It sounds like the baffles in my muffler. I have duals on this, a crossover, catback I think?
But I cant get it out of my head, that this thing has, maybe not jumped time...but skipped time?
IS this possible? I have adjusted time years ago, but havent fooled with it lately, especially a Dodge.

Help me out would ya ?

if you are blowing white smoke out the exhaust, or your losing coolant, or both, then its a blown head gasket.

Yeah, sounds like a head gasket has failed. This is probably due to having a warped head from the overheat.
