Subject: 5.9L Freeze Plugs

Never ever replace your factory freeze plugs with non-mopar brass ones. I started months ago with some small leakage from most of the orig. plugs so I took it to a non-factory mechanic down the street. He says replace them with brass and they won't leak. Well, his great (cheap) work leaked and it took two return trips to get it right. A month later I'm 5 minutes from work and I hear a "cling...ching" noise go go under the truck as if I hit something. Next, white smoke starts rolling out from under the right-front wheel! When I got it stopped, I saw smoke where a freeze plug should've been. Towed it to the dealer and had them replace all plugs with "the good stuff" from mopar. When the coolant did a rapid evacuation, it must have blown the plug before she got too hot. I dodged a bullet by not having any further damage.
