just got a 2000 dakota sport (2wd) about 3 weeks ago. Its got the 4.7 liter with a 5 sp manual. My problem is after I drive for extended periods of time, and I pull up to a stop light or stop sign and start out in first gear, it kicks out of gear. This is especially common when the light/sign is on an UP hill incline? I'm still under warantee for about 40 days so any help would be appreaciate! thanks!

Have it checked...you may have a fouled up blocker ring which would cause it to pop out of gear. Someone probably used the "can't find em' grind em'" method of operation.

Contact your dealer there was service bulletin for this happening on 2000. They should be able to take care of it. Do it before your warrenty is up.

Does this ever happen while you are driving as well? I had a '97 toyota Taco that would pop out of 4th gear while driving or if I stopped at a light (never downshifted to save on clutch) and sometimes would pop out of gear. Put it up on the rack and found out (1) the rear main shaft seal was leaking and (2) one of my synch's was bent (discovered this AFTER I changed the seal and the truck kept popping out of gear)
