Is it true that the new 4.7s have more horsepower and torque than the older 5.2s? If it is, it can't be by much.

My 93 5.2 had 230 HP @ 4800 rpm and 280 ft-lb @ 3200 rpm. The current 4.7 is either 230 or 235 HP @ 4800 rpm (depending on the model) and 295 ft-lb @ 3200 rpm. So the 4.7 is a little more powerful then even the best year for the 318, the next year power dropped to 220 HP.

I raced with notchlx(great guy) from this forum in the 1/8th mile. He has a 4.7/5 sp/3.92 RC and it ran VERY well. If my 95/5.2/5 sp/3.21 was stock with the same gear ratio(3.92) it would have been very close even with the added weight of the Gen III.

Well thank you YA...( remember my 9.5 pass at 100mph? ) The difference could be debated all day, but one things for sure. The different motors are different babies. The 318 makes an ass of bottom-end torque, where as the 287 doesn't make a lot of torque until the revs start climbing. I have driven both, and love both.
I do like the fuel mileage of the 4.7 though.

Ya...Let me know when you want to hit Mooresville again. Comparing slips from Jackson, I was about 1 full 1/10th slower at Mooresville.... Darn track was slick! 9.50-9.59 @ 73-74 mph.
