Subject: Edelbrock IAS shocks $19.98 each!

I was shopping the Summit Racing website's clearance items and noticed that they have Edelbrock IAS shocks for $19.98 each instead of $49.95 each. That's an incredible deal and shipping is free!

This is for the rear only

Yea but they suck, I have them and they aren't much different than stock. Way too soft.

You mean they suck in YOUR opinion. I have them too and they were a HUGE improvement over the stock shocks in ride and handling. I wish I could've gotten mine for $19.98 each. Wasn't there a money back guarantee with them? It's not like they were hard to put on.

Yep, I mean in my opinion. They suck. Well ok unless you like a soft girlie ride :) And the handling around bends with bumps is no improvement over stock.
In fact the only real improvement that I have found for the sideways jump on a bumpy bend is stiffer shocks and urethane swaybar bushings.

Also the IAS are too soft for towing any heavy objects - just to easily collapsed.
I'll sell mine for $10/ea. plus shipping.

But I'm glad you like them for your application.

Jeff

Not sure what you mean by "just to easily collapsed" for towing. Shocks have nothing to do with ride height. You probably mean your springs are too "soft" for towing.

They're high-pressure gas shocks! You either had defective shocks (doubtful) or you don't understand how they work.
I believe there are IAS shocks designed for a lifted vehicle but, these are the standard RED shocks. I think the extreme shocks are silver colored.

The IAS shocks you talking about is a twin cyl. shock. I also have the IAS shocks on my 4x4 2k dak. works fine handles towing loads too. Ride is firm. Cost about 75 each. Its a mono cyl.one.

I was browsing the SummitRacing clearance pages and noticed that there are IAS Red shocks for lifted vehicles but the only ones I saw are for 4" lifts.

Yep that must be it. Only problem is high pressure has no bearing on the valving of the shock.
Like I said if you like them great, I don't care for the valving.

When towing my boat, there is way too much bounce in the rear, some maybe tongue weight but a stiffer shock would absorb more of it.

They are pretty to look at though :)

Oh yea and they have been this price for 1-2 yrs now. I got mine there last summer for the same price.
Maybe the mono shocks are better, after all you get what you pay for.

Rob - thanks for the tip. I decided to try these and I'm pleased with them. Definitely an improvement over stock when it comes to handling bumps in turns; just as others have reported with the IAS monoshocks. Does any one know what makes these "twin tube" ? I expected an open tube covering the rod end like the stockers; but they came with a rubber boot to cover the rod like the monotubes. Clearly labeled "twin tube" though, doesn't appear to be a mistake. This has definitely helped my truck not to jump around on bumpy turns, even with tires inflated to 50 psi.

Only issue ive had is that 2 went out in the first 2 days and trying to deal with them has been a pain. Lifetime warranty ha, i would have been happy to have them last a week on a stock 98 4x4 that only goes on road. They suck, and more importantly, so does their customer support. Ill never buy again.

They've been great shocks for me in my 3" lifted '99 4x4. Firmer ride all the way around, no more nose diving when cornering or braking. Lots of memebers here recommend them. Read more threads before deciding!

I suppose I should mention, mine are the monotube shock as opposed to the twin tube design.

If your shocks are BAD, Any NEW shock will be an improvement!

My stock shocks were still good, but many here have complained of the way our trucks jump around on bumps in turns because the stock valving is not well suited to the unloaded suspension, especially with higher tire pressures. The improvement I found was over good shocks, not bad ones.
