I think it is down at the bottom of the engine where the coolant hose goes in. Not positive, but that is what I seem to remember reading.

Yup, it's in the lower radiator hose connection to the engine block. I read a couple of posts which said to remove the lower bolt from the bottom side of the engine,,, this was a big PITA as there was very little room to work. Removing the both bolts from the top of the engine was a lot easier.

There's acres of room, but you gotta remove that plastic splash shield first. Once you do that, it's a piece of cake.

Acres of room??? I removed the plastic shield and found it akward as he11 to get the socket and ratched in a good position to remove the bolt, short socket too short, deep socket too long. Truck was on jack stands, but still there wasn't very much room between the frame and sway bar to reach up in there and move around,, Guess I have fat fingers or something.

Anywhoo, I found it much easier to get to the thermostat housing from the top of the engine. You don't have to remove the plastic shield and bolt bolts can be reached easily from the top.

Oh,,, mine's a 2wd, maybe that makes a difference?

Yep. Sorry about that.
Mine's a 4WD, and the sway bar doesn't block access to the engine bay from underneath.
