Subject: O/D off?
IP: Logged

Message:
Okay so I was told its better for the truck to have O/D off when driving around the town, but when I stomp on the gas the truck wont accelerate past 40mph.

It opens up real loud and accelerates very fast to 40mph, but as soon as it hits 40mph @ 5000ish RPM's it goes *woosh* *woosh* and wont go any faster as if it doesnt want to shift into the next gear.

When I have O/D off and just accelerate moderately it will go upwards to 60mph no problem.

I switched O/D back on and stomped on the gas and the truck accelerated upwards to 60mph fine, but I know it could do it faster if O/D was off.

Any reason why the truck wont accelerate faster than 40mph with O/D off? I don't think I'm getting through all 3 gears I think it could shift if it wanted to, but it just seems like its not shifting once it hits 40mph @ 5200 RPM's.

Okay I did some more testing.

O/D off: peddle floored: truck tops out at 40mph
peddle 3/4: truck goes past 40mph

O/D on: peddle floored: truck tops out at 100mph+
peddle 3/4: " "

So yeah I dont know what is wrong.

Check the tv cable to the transmission. It may be out of adjustment. Have you done any mods?

What N56629 said 100% if you have a 46RE,etc

When my bro in law adjusts his too far, it will hit the limiter before shifting into 2nd. Sometimes it will shift into 2nd then shift right back into 1st and hitting the rev limiter.

He has to adjust that thing carefully. I told him to keep it to where it doesn't do that and if he needs to wind out 1st gear to shift it manually.

The TV cable is very picky and important on them tranny's.

Thank god my 5-45RFE doesn't have one of those :p

should i put more slack on to the right side of the bracket (looking from the passenger side fender) or less slack?

I asked a buddy of mine and he told me to adjust the TV cable also, but im not sure if i should give it more or less slack. Its got some pretty good slack now.

oh yeah btw, it has started doing it with O/D turned on. So I'm hoping its the TV cable, and not the fact that my second gear is fried.
