Subject: rear brake cylinders leaking ... (BS???)
IP: Logged

Message:
Just took my 02 4.7L 4x4 CC in for inspection. In order for me to pass,
I need a fuel system cleaner cause of the carbon in the top end.
(yeah, go ahead & laugh!)

Also, my rear brake cylinders are both [supposedly] leaking. Seems to happen
on all the new cars I drive with drum brakes. With ~37,000 miles on the truck,
is this plausable? I have yet to check them, but feel I'm getting screwed.

I took the truck to my local Firestone here in Lawn Guyland. The inspection
laws changed last April, & being a semi new truck, thought I pass with flying
colors. Any input is deeply appreciated.

Yeah they told me that too on mine had about 40,000 on the clock then drove it till 65,000 without any problems but still ignored it and they went out in traffic and i rear ended someone. But from what i'm guessing i should have changed them around 60,000.

Pull back the the outside seals on the wheel cylinders. If brake fluid runs out they're junk. A little moisture is normal.

My 2000 R/T rear brake cylinders leak a bit too! I'm not sweatin' it too bad. I guess this is another one of those high-fail factory things. The way I see it this is minor compared to the enjoyment I'm getting out of this truck

OK - got the truck back. 35,500 miles but who's counting?!?!?!

Anyway, took the drums off, but no sign of leakage. I did peel
the dust boot back on the cylinders & the plungers have a coating
of brake fluid if anything. Dry otherwise. Anyway, convinced they
were taking me for a ride. Think of going back this week & bust
the manager's balls & have him show me the leakage.

Anyone farmiliar with the NYS inspection laws??? Be nice to be a
step ahead of these guys.
