Subject: HELP! RPM Drop '95 5.2L

Hi all,
I have a long trip coming up and this issue is worrying me (and really worrying my wife, so I have to resolve it now!). When I am driving my '95 Dakota 4x4 with the auto (46RH I believe) at highway speeds (around 2k RPMS) the RPMs just drop and then return regularly. Sometimes less than 50 sometimes more than 100. If I turn off the overdrive and the tachometer is around 3k, it doesn't do it at all that I can tell.

Here is the real kicker - with cruise control engaged it doesn't seem to do it at all.....

First, thought it was TPS so I replaced it (today). No change still does it.

It acts like it isn't getting fuel, but new fuel pump and filter assembly from RockAuto. Also, it runs fine at the higher RPMs, so even though it acts like a fuel starving problem, I don't see how it can be?!??! I f I am wrong, let me know.

Don't think it is the tranny or the RPMs would jump up, not down. Is it easy to disable the lockup on this beast? My only thought is that it is starting to engage but doesn't. That would cause an RPM drop, but why not with cruise control on?

Help me please! I am my wits ends with this one! I tried digging through the posts, but mostly they pointed at a TPS.

JD

Hi all, thought that I would share my happy ending. It was a TV cable adjustment which was the issue - I loosened it slightly and the problem disappeared.

Now I just have the stinkin' Magnum plenum gasket to deal with....

Ok, I was wrong, it is STILL doing it! ARGGG even under cruis and now, even when the overdrive and electronic lock-up is off...it must be something on the engine!!!

It only does it under light load....
