99 5.2 4x4, 46re i think? How do i diagnose a bad torque converter, what would it do to make shifting different? From what i know the converter has been leaking for 7 months now, i just keep topping it off about every 2 to 3 days. But if i replaced the converter would it stop the hard shifting into 1st?

Take it to a trnas shop... its not your converter thats leaking ... if it was .. you wouldnt be moving at all.... sounds like either the pump o-ring or the
front oil seal is bad....as for the hard shift.. your truck is in first while at idle and in "drive" .. it sounds more like a hard shift into second.... you need to take it to a shop.... working on a 46RE is a pain if you dont know what your doing ....

Also I dont think you have a 46RE becasue I could have sworn they only came matched with the 5.9L engines, so i'd look into that just to make sure you know what trnny you have.

I have an '02 Dakota QC 4.7L Auto 45RFE 75,000 miles.
I live in Phoenix and lately when it gets really hot out, sometimes from a dead stop I experience high rpms and a little slow to get going, but once it shifts, it's fine. It doesn't happen all the time, but every so often it does. It's fine when it's cooler outside. Is this just the fan clutch? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1. why do people add thread into a topic that has nothing to do with the topic itself?
2. i have a 93 5.2 cc 4x4, and my tranny is the 46RH so,,,.. if he as the 99 5.2, chances are, and id bet on it, that he has the 46RE. i think the only way he would have a different transmission, is if he had a 5 speed, or if someone changed it out the the 42RE or another v6 transmission for some rediculas reason.
