Subject: Tranny acting wierd!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I own a 2000 RT. Here recently when I get around 50 to 60 mph, i feel a slight miss or a slip in the transmission. It usually only does it when i am going up a hill.

I have recently changed the plugs. It has around 42000 mi on it. The more it warms up the more frequently it does it.

Does anyone have any sugestions on what might be the cause???

Thanx Jake

First, do the easy test.
Turn off overdrive and see if the same thing happens.

On my Dakota, doing 60 with overdrive on puts the engine at 1600RPM. Way too low to be useful or economical, The transmission constantly hunts for gears because of the changing load going up and down the low hills here in the Pacific Northwest.

When I turn the overdrive off at 60, the engine is now at 2300RPM, higher in the HP/Torque curve, the tranny no longer hunts. As an added benefit,I actually get better gas mileage.

One more thing: taking your foot off the accelerator unlocks the torque converter. Almost all auto transmissions these days do that. It won't lock back up again until there is a load put on the transmission (when you give it some gas). Maybe that's what your feeling.
