I have a 5.9L engine out of a 2001 Ram. The block was full of water so i decided to stip it down and do a full rebuild. Where is the beast place to get rebuild parts? Will 360 parts for a 1999 work or has the 360 changed? Im in Orlando and I have heard of KRC but does he sell stock rebuild parts? I havent been able to get him on the phone. The cylinder walls still have the crosshatch visable

Parts from the '99 will work. eBay has great deals on rebuild parts. To extend the life of the block, get the moly-coated rings. They carry oil to the upper cylinder walls and are proven performers.

Since the cylinder walls still have the crosshatch visable should i have it rehoned for the new rings ? And what are the best bearings to use ?

I would just freshen up the crosshatch to break the partial glaze already formed. Michigan-77, Sealed Power, Federal Mogul. They're all good. First nod goes to Michigan-77.

Yes, rehone it. Otherwise it will take forever for the rings to seat. The best tool to use is the ball type hone. Very simple to use with a drill motor in your garage. Pretty tough to screw it up. I agree, use a good moly ring, like Speed-Pro.

I've always been a fan of Clevite 77 bearings. Used them many times with good results.

I think I can get a hone from a guy at work .... how hard is it to use? how do you get the crosshatch pattern right ? As for the rings...should they be "file to fit" or are they ready to use? All the info you guys are giving me is great.... my 318 i hvae right now is almost dead... its running so rough i had to crank the idle screw all the way in to keep it running...

What if I wanted to get an engine kit to RB my 5.9 Mag. Can I use a kit for an LA style motor? The reason I ask is I can't find one for anything newer than a 1991.

As far as bearings and rings, yeah, they're the same. Rods will interchange, as will cranks, and pistons, but Magnum 360's need a little less external balance weight, so in parts swapping, that needs to be considered unless the entire assembly were to be swapped as a unit. The gasket set is only partially the same. Head gaskets work, timing cover gasket works. Intake gaskets don't. Water pump either. Valve cover and oil pan gaskets and seals are different.

On the hone, if you can run it in a drill, do so with 1/2-3/4 speed and run it back and forth through the bores a few times (it doesn't take much). It's pretty straightforward. Just remember to keep the hone spinning while in the bores so as to avoid straight cuts in the cylinders when you pull it out. Just spin it, you'll be fine. If you use the moly-coated rings, it's not mandatory to do this, but it is if you use the plain or chrome rings. The rings come in various oversize, but if your engine is so fresh, you should just go back with stock bore size rings. File to fit just isn't necessary for your situation.

I'v always used moly rings. And I've never found the ring gap to be correct right out of the box. I always have to file them a little to get the gap exactly right. I've never used plain steel rings, so they may be differant. Be sure and check before installing.
