Every car that I have ever done, the Tstat was a piece of cake, but just by looking at my 4.7 Dak, I am thinking this is different. What should I expect before jumping in??? Is the 4.7 still a 10min job? I don't really need to change mine; I'm just looking to switch from the 195 to the 180.

pull the plastic splash cover under radiator(7 plastic push pins 3/8),put a big container under t-stat housing and remove t-stat(2 bolts). take o-ring off old t-stat and put it on the new. re-assemble and fill and bleed system. easy

No sh*t.

I thought WTF when i saw my t-stat way down there.

Then 5 minutes later the new t-stat is in.

After working on cars for 20 yrs, HOLY SHEEET that was EASY!!!

Mine's been fine with the 180*. But I'm in AZ and no need for a 195!

so, Putting the 180 Tstat in will result in the engine running cooler and smoother and reduce Pinging?

am I correct?

The 4.7 is not especially prone to pinging; if yours is (bigger tires on 3.55 gears ?) you might want to figure out why, rather than look for a bandaid fix. Maybe you are mistaking an exhaust leak for pinging ?

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

mine used to ping, I ran started running a higher grade fuel, and got my spark plugs replaced.

but yea, I do have 32 inch Tires running on 3.44 Gears.

it could also be my header gaskets wearing out, and leaking when I hit the gas.

time to change those Gaskets I guess, what fun, it was hard enough putting the headers on.

but will the 180 Tstat make the engine run cooler?

Anyone know a good place to actually BUY exhaust gaskets for a 4.7?

I need them to make a template to make a header flange. Then some FULL length headers :)

well, I plan to buy my Header Gaskets from Gibson I guess,

I have Shorty Headers, just bolt ons.

I have heard that you need to change your Gaskets at least once a year if you installed Headers. I have heard that they go bad quick.

the headers have been on my truck for at least 3 years, and I havn't replaced the gaskets yet, but I think I need to soon.

GraphiteDak,
Are you going to:
1. Make them equal length?
2. Plan the length of each runner to compensate for the firing order?
3. So little room to work, just get it to fit.

Exhaust gaskets? Dealer$hip?

When everything is assembled clean, with attention to detail, and torque specs and sequence (when required) followed correctly, there is no reason a new OEM gasket used with headers shouldn't last as long as when installed with OEM exhaust manifold.

Unless the headers are defective.
