I have a 98 Dakota 4x4 automatic that originally had a 5.2. I put a 5.9 out of a 2000 Durango into it. I want to put a PCM from a 5.9 into it but there was never a 98 5.9 4x4 Dakota. So would something close work? I can understand that you need the same tire size, same engine size, automatic, but what difference does it make if it is 4 or 2 wheel drive, Durango, Ram or Dak, 98, 99,or 2000? They all should be about the same. What will happen if it's not an exact match?

I'd try to stay away from different year or model at least. Might not run, or dash might not work right. I've heard if one truck has factory alarm, that can be a problem too; but I forget if its the donor or receiver with the alarm that causes a problem. There's usually a fair selection at car-part.com, many salvage yards together online.

i think your best bet would be either 98 r/t pcm or a 98 ram pcm

Here's the problem. Durango's are equipped with a few more goodies than dakota's are, normally. Thus different wiring patterns in the harness. I would probably use the PCM that went with the 5.9 you installed. That would be the best start.

It just so happens that yesterday I put a PCM in my truck from a 1998 RT. It seems to run about the same as with the 5.2 PCM but I have a check engine light and codes P0138, P0141 and P00152. I think these are all O2 sensor errors. I'm thinking that the RT may have 4 O2 sensors instead of 2 and this may be causing the codes. Can anyone confirm this?

MOPAR12, are you recommending the jet chip from experience or are you figuring that the more aggresive fuel and timing curve would be closer to that of a 5.9?
