I bought a 2000 4.7L Club Cab about 6 months ago, and it has been running great. It has 73k on it, and now I've noticed an odd noise after startup. When I accelerate between 0-35ish it makes a sound that can only best be described as a candy wrapper crinkling. It goes away after a little while and doesn't always do it.

It sounds like its comming from the front end, but I can't seem to isolate it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? Any help would be much appreciated.

It is most likly is your fan belt. I would not put any dressing on it, just replace it.

I've also noticed something else. That just started recently. When I park the truck coolant leaks out of the overflow valve from the coolant reserve. It's a recent thing, and it doesn't run hot. The needle stays below the halfway point.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be?

And thanks for the input HemiMan, I'll replace the fan belt and see if that solves the problem.

Is your overflow bottle too full when cold?
Do you have the correct spec radiator cap, and is it in good condition?
When your engine is running, all that heat is getting pulled off by the movement of coolant and oil.
Turning off the engine stops the movement of coolant and oil, but there's still a bit of heat trapped in the engine that wants to go somewhere to equalize. It moves into the now stationary coolant, raising the coolant's temperature and pressure.
If your overflow bottle is too full, the expanding coolant will overfill the bottle, which will then dump the excess out of the vent port.

I'll try to answer those questions as best I can...

The overflow bottle isn't, as far as I understand, too full when cold. I checked it when cold, and it goes up to the full marker, but not past.

My radiator cap is the factory cap, as far as I know. Which I believe is a 16lbs cap.

How can I tell if the cap is worn or bad?

I bought the truck in the winter, and I live in Las Vegas. So it gets pretty hot here in the summer and it's now getting very warm during the days. I use the truck for work so I'm running between job sites and such. I've noticed that when driving on the freeway, the coolant temp is about 1/4-1/8 of an inch below the center 210 marker. Although when in traffic it moves to just below or on the center marker. I've noticed that when I'm sitting in the truck making my calls or what not and it's running it starts to go over the center line.
Is this normal?
Also I've noticed that after I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then come back and start it, the coolant temp goes up to about the middle point between the center 210 marker, and the white marker before the 260 red point. Then goes back down after I get driving.
Is that normal?
Or could these be an indication of something bad?

Would switching to 180 t-stat help my situation?

I'm new to the truck, and not incredibly knowledgable with cars/trucks.

Thanks you for the help guys, and any input, thoughts, or assistance on these things would be tremendously appreciated.
