Subject: Best Cams for the 4.7L

My truck is almost stock except exhaust (I have the 2001 motorsport ed.) and cold air intake. What can I expect to get in hp with an aftermarket cam and what one do you recommend for the 4.7L?

Lastly, is this a DIY project for a novice or should these be done by a shop? I've done all the basic mechanics, but never attempted anything like this. So, any experience stories are welcome.

Thanks,
Jay

I myself am sporting the KRC 4.7L/200 Dual Overhead Camshafts along with a SuperChips Tuner. They were nice additions which woke up my 100k+ 2000 Clubcab.

I've heard mixed things about the "SuperChip" Tuners. Some people have posted really bad experiences with them (locking up their trucks and completely freezing the PCM)

Izzy What has your experience been with them anything bad? I am scared to try these based on what I have read on other forums.

Where do you notice it the most with the KRC Cams (off the line or top end)?

The KRC 200 cams are the same as the stock Jeep HO cams - better torque everywhere, and most of the torque of the whole HO package. Toughest part is R&R of the valve covers, many have detailed the swap here if you do a search.

yes the valve covers are diffucult to get off! im running the 206 cams. if you can afford it do it. the 206 cams you will notice a difference off the line but most of the power kicks in at 3000 rpm so the butt dino says.
