I posted a few days ago about a problem I was having with the A/C and an antifreeze smell. Someone recommended that they were 2 separate problems, and I think they were right. The A/C problem seems to have gotten better, but the antifreeze problem seems to have gotten worse.

Heres the problem. Theres a slight smell of antifreeze when the fan is on. But now, even when the fan is off, theres still a slight smell. At times, you can see a slight mist coming out of the vents, when the fans are on, it blows out, but when the fans are off, it just rises out. There seems to be a stronger smell and more mist when the fans are set to heat than to A/C. Also, at night, the windows tend to fog up. Does this sound like a serious heater core problem? If so, does the heater core need to be replaced, or is there something else that I can do? Thanks.

uh, that really, realllly sucks. the heater core is a P.I.T.A. to get to... you basically have to disassemble the entire dash... check the heater box drain tube for antifreeze coming out... it should be on the passenger side of the engine bay at the firewall, on mine its right behind the tranny dipstick.. I have a5.9, it should be the same for the 5.2, not sure about the 3.9 or 4.7... anyway, if you ahve antfreeze there, more than likely, its that core coming apart. you could sacrifice heat, and just bypass the system, by rerouting the heater hose that leads into the heater core, to reconnect where the return line dumps back to the engine, but then you have no heat when winter rolls back around. the only other option would be a heater core replacement, of that is what it is, and thats a good weekend job... all weekend. I just had my dash apart to inspect the a/c core and heater core, I had puddles of water under my carpet, and well, had to dissect the entire dash just to get access to it. it was not very fun. hope its NOT your core gone bad, for your sake.

Unfortunately for us I've read several posts on different boards about the heater core problems and they all say the same thing. PITA. If mine ever goes I'm gonna check into an aftermarket one since I've read so many posts where guys have said they have to replace the factory units every 2-4 yrs. because they're junk.
