Subject: installing a westin brush guard...
IP: Logged

Message:
I am in the process of installing a westin brush guard. I put the two brackets on where the hood comes down. It appears that the brush guard will fit nicely but the hood hits the brackets and the hood won't close. Has anyone had this problem and did you just notch out the grill a bit to solve the problem?? Thanks in advance.

Kurt

Nice, I just wanted to ask 1 thing are you trying to install the 3 piece Grille/Side brush guard kit. I currently have the grille guard and I want to get the side brush/guards. Is there somewhere online that has them Cheap$$$. OK...and now your Problem.I did have Mine Professionally installed soo I really cant help you on your problem, (sorry). But I do notice that where the Brackets are attached (Bumper)they Do hit the hood when it closes. I dont know how they managed to close it but It has been wearing down at those specific spots!!

Well, i got it off Ebay for 66.00. It was used. It is a full brush guard with small bars where the lights are(kind of like bolt on inserts). It has a pipe across the bottom, two solid uprights with a rubber bumper over them, a middle 3 sided flat cross piece with holes for lights(stamped Westin in the middle). the whole thing is pretty solid(fully welded). I mounted it over the weekend which took a bit of time. I had to buy (from Westin) the mounting kit which didn't come with the guard(the guy couldn't find them). I had to bend the upper brackets a bit for the hood to miss the brackets. the lower backets mount from the frame/bumper bracket bolts to the bottom of the guard. I used stainless steel bolts vs the ones that Westin sent me. All in all it looks pretty good but the hood/bottom of grill does rub on the top bar when opening and closing but not enough to modify the mounts further(I'd have to push the lower mount brackets towards the back of the truck to tilt the guard a bit forward if i wanted it to completely miss. (It hits about an 1/8 of an inch). Hope this helps others out. BTW...the mount kit costs 50.00 which would come with the guard when i asked the guy how much the whole thing costs he told me 550.00. It is a black guard. A couple of scratches and small dents but i have a 5 yr old truck already so it cleaned up good enough for me.
