Subject: 5.2 waterpump pulley question

Message:
I have a 93 Dakota with the 5.2 and on the front of my waterpump pulley, there are no bolts, just holes. Should there be bolts or not. When removing the fan, I need to leverage a screw on those bolts but I have none. How about the rest of you?

No there should not be bolts you have one of the newer style water pumps with the pressed on pulley. When removing the fan I use a 1 7/16" wrench and a soft mallet hammer. I leave the belt on and bang the wrench a few times and that usually losens the fan. If not try holding the pulley with a pair of pliers or something of that nature. But try not ot scuff the pulley.
Good luck.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN INSTALLING A TIMING
CHAIN.

THERE IS A SPECIFIC TOOL MADE TO REMOVE THE FAN.
ASK A LOCAL DEALER IF HE HAS ONE YOU CAN BORROW.

You can make your own spanner wrench.I used 2 pieces of flat steel and bolted them together like a scissor. Then I put 2 nuts and bolts, letting the end of the bolts stick out like little tits and put the tits into 2 of the pully holes and held the pully,it worked fine.
