99 5.2 4x4,auto. I was following a 911 Turbo on the Interstate and had it up to about 120mph and pushed the pedel alittle more but my water pump blew, cracked the fan off ripping throught the radiator, tearing the condenser to shreads, and taking all hoses and belts with it.It really sucked but my question is what would a good honest technician charge me for labor to put all that stuff back in, I just don't want to get ripped.

Ditch the AC, conserve some money and realize some extra HP. The radiator alone runs about $260 and the condenser about $130. A water pump is $70-90. The shroud you can find in a junkyard. The rest of the stuff shouldn't run more than about $70.

The above post is right on. I remember seeing some radiators for our trucks on ebay for about $200. I actually have a fan and shroud from a '97 5.2 if you'd like them. Let me know. I replaced my waterpump last spring, autozone part for about 50 bucks, but that was after a 20 dollar core return. Good luck chief!

I have another more obvious question.....What the hell were you doing trying to keep up with a 911???? Having owned a 911 (prior to my divorce!) I can definitly tell you that the only chance you had in catching up is if he/she was going really easy and you bumped them off the road! Not to mention 120MPH in a Dakota????

You got off lucky withthe damage though. I've seen a couple of cars in the past where the fan cut up the hood pretty good also. A side form the water pump, hoses and belts the other parts can be bought used at a junk yard for less than $200.. Installation is a piece of cake and shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

eh. yah, you F'ed it up pretty bad. although I have to add to the previous post, I've outran a few 90's models 911 in my R/T, that is until the damned speed limiter caught me... and yes they were trying to race too.
YOu are lucky that it didn't do more damage, and most ofthe prices Ive seen listed are pretty much on target... if you think you can handle the job, I'd salvage yard it... most of you're cost at a shop is going to be wrapped up in labor, not parts.

i got a black 98 cc slt 4x4 with a 318. ive never been up to 120 but ive hit the limiter on the highway before. theres this part on the highway where you go downhill then back up. i was goin 90 and as i started goin down the hill i punched it. the speedo topped out at 110 halfway down but it felt like i kept goin faster cuz i was goin downhill. then goin back uphill i took it back down to 85.

I have a 4x4 3.9 v6 and I've hit 120 on multiple occasions, a few times (downhill) I've gotten it over 120 until it actually cuts out. My buddies mustang can hit over 140 (clocked him with a corvette) without a revlimiter in sight.

Also my trucks a clutch, the revlimiter is at 118 on straight aways and it'll go over 120 on a slope. The automatics either cut out at 108 or 98, I'm not sure, and my sebring jxi's rev limiter is at 118. My sisters v6 auto mustang cuts out at 98.

I can do all of these speeds because in the appalachian mountains there's hardly any cars and plenty of hills to run on. It might be dangerous, but go cry to somebody who cares.

Also, when fixing your truck, make it a DIY project. At least you'll learn and be able to fix things later on. I'm no mechanic (far from it), but just about anything can be fixed if you and a friend sit at it over night. It took me and a buddy about 10 hours to figure out the correct way to take my intake manifold off, cut down the runners/injector bosses and reassemble it correctly. It's not like the trucks going anywhere so taking the stuff off and trying to put new stuff back on would at least save you in labor time if you decide to give up halfway through.

Slow4x4Dak - actually there are at least 3 different speeds the factory limited different Dakotas to; none seems to be linked to transmission type (you may have reached that conclusion by looking at too small a sample). The slowest seems to be linked to mostly some (but apparently not all) quad cab combinations.

You're right, DIY's the way to go if people can do it !

Yea, I am going by a small sample. I was just going by the trend that I've noticed automatics cut out around 95-98 and manuals usually make it to 115-120 on the variety of cars I've seen (not many) / raced.

You're probably right, I think a friend of mine (maybe acquantince) said his QC 4.7 auto hit 110 pretty easily; I don't know if he's hit over 110. I am pretty sure the governor can be bypassed if you either remove the ABS sensor (not recommended) or change it somehow. I haven't done enough research to say exactly how to bypass it. I know the Jet Stage 2 didn't take my rev limiter off (5.6k) or my topspeed up any. I definitely did notice an improvement with it though, 2nd to the tb upgrade.

My '02 QC tops out at 118, then just dies. I thought about the Jet box, but couldn't really justify it stateside. Now, I'm stationed in Germany. I just might have a use for it.

2 ways to bypass limiter - get a flash like I got that raises it to 256 (highest possible setting); or turn key to start and hold as you are about to be limitted. Starter won't engage, but dash will go blank and limitter is bypassed.
