1) Speed limiter>annoying but normal.
2)Torqe converter unlocks when throttle is released, the rpm "overspeed" is the converter locking back up, lowering your rpms.
3) No clue.

Ramewe...thanks for the heads-up, I had already decided not to go with that change, nobody has anything good to say about it...going to stick with the HO cams and intake...and probably a tuner too...the price of gas is holding me back on the tuner...I don't really want to start pumping premium gas...however will do whatver is necessary for OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE.

Thanks again

OK,

Some people say change oil every 2500-3000, regular or synthetic to ensure maximum life of engine.

Some people say changing every 10,000-15,000 is fine with a good filter (I assume they change the filter more often?).

You would think there would be a independant test by now that would prove which way is truly the best (short duration dyno oil or long duration synthetic)?

If you check your owners manual Dodge recomends changing your oil and filter every 7500 miles or six months, whichever comes first. With 5 exceptions which relate to excessive heat or dusty conditions which if they apply they recommend changing it every 3000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. No oil company will ever recommend anything different. But the facts are that at 400 degrees petrolium based oils will burn and even at 220 (normal oil operating temp) it will break down in a short period of time. Synthetic's burn and breakdown temps are much higher. (varies depending on manufacturer and spec) Therefore it offers superior stability and lubricity. It also holds contaminates (dirt) in suspesion better and longer. I would encourage you to just monitor your oil. Pull the filter cut it open check for trash and the color. It should be medium brown (the color of a Hershie's bar) If it is black or very dark brown it should be changed. I change all of my vehicles every six months. My 2000 Dak has 197K on it and is clean as can be under the valve covers. No sludge, no milk, no unusual engine noises. I have never had a major engine failure. I also bracket race it about twice a month which puts the engine under more than the normal driving stress.

Lots of gunk in the bottom of the oilpan which after a while gets sucked into the oilpump pickup screen.

I had the same problem, oil pressure drop after a few minutes. Discovered after I bought the vehicle. I figured it was the cause of the seized camshaft. Yeah, I bought it pretty cheap in that condition. I finally Found the oil screen was filled with crud. Once getting to high speed, it would suck in enough to block all oil flow. You can't just clean or replace the screen. I found the engine block walls was covered with crud waiting to fall into the pan. You need to remove the pan and see what you got. I had to spray a degreaser/engine cleaner and brake cleaner throughout the entire block and around the cylinder bores. Then I rinsed with my water hose, it took a lot of water to loosen and remove the crud. I also changed the oil pump because I didn't want to worry about it and go thru the pain of doing it later. One head and the cams had to be replaced. Don't know how the main bearings look but its been running great ever since.

Good luck

The 4.7 is race bread in design but it ends there. Dodge cheeped out on materials pretty much everywhere. Valve lash adjusters have been a sore spot with the 4.7. I use 10W-30 Mobil-One and change my oil every 10k I change the filter with Purolator Premium Gold at 5k. This is well under the life of Mobil-One at 15k but I would never take it that far. I Drive 80% highway avg. 80mph. I drive 42 miles each way five days a week. I have the 4.7 HO in my 07 Dakota TRX-4 CC. Great truck in concept but like I said Dodge dropped the ball in build quality.

I have an 'o8 dakota quad cab with a 4.7. I would like to pull the oil pan off(in place) to put a sensor boss for oil temp. on it and clean out the pan at the same time. I have herd that the pan is not to be taken off because it is structual to the bottom of the engine??? I find that hard to believe so I'm asking here if I can do this easly?? Thanks in advance for any information.

You could remove oil pressure sending unit and install a tee fitting and put your oil temp sensor there. If space permits. Easier than removing and modifying the oil pan.

I agree with daddio on the T. However if you want to put one in the pan you can remove the pan with no problem. The part they are talking about is the bedplate which acts as all of the main bearing caps and mounting plate for the pan...which you dont have any reason to touch. The pan bolts should be 10mm heads and the gasket is expensive as all heck. Enjoy.

My 02 Dakota has developed an engine noise that I cant Identify. Nasty tick while cold, after about 20 min it quiets down but you can hear it still while on the throttle. sounds like a nasty exh. leak but ive checked. Someone told me rocker arm or flat spot on cam, but wouldnt that not quiet down when warm? Any help would be great. Thanks

A bad lifter would cause that not a rocker arm. Have you chnaged the oil recently? Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gage.

I OWN A 2004 DAKOTA WITH 4.7 ENGINE. LAST FRIDAY IT DROPPED A VALVE WHICH CAUSED THE ROCKER ARMS TO FALL OFF. THE SHOP SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE WHICH COSTS $6200 WITH 3 YRES 100,000 MILES WARRANTY. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS A PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT ADMIT. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THAT THE 4.7 ENGINE IS AN AWESOME ENGINE. I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES FAITHFULLY, SO IT WAS NOT DUE TO MAINTENANCE PROBLEM.
