What is it when my 97 Dodge Dakota Sport V-8 will start but not run. I can turn it over time after time and it starts but then just dies. It will not stay running. It has gas, but acts like it doesnt. Who has had this problem and how was it solved...

Ck the battery mine did the samething and it was the problem.For some reason my 99 Dodge truck wouldn't stay running with a weak battery

I had a simmilar problem with my 98 5.2 L. It would not idle until it warmed up. I could keep it running with pushing the gas. It turned out to be the AIS module(air idle speed module). its on the back of the throttle body. About 70 bucks and 5 minutes of your time. Hope that helps. feel free to e mail aksnopro2@yahoo.com

i had a similer problem only mine stayed running if i keept on the gas. i only had this problem on cold days when it dropped below freezing. it turned out to be to much carbon build up on the idle air motor on the back of the intake body valve. i cleaned it the best i could and it solved it for a bit, but to solve it completely i took the body valve off on cleaned it with brake cleaner

Does it have an alarm? The factory alarm disables the ignition system. As long as the ignition switch is held in the start posistion it will run. As soon as you release it to the run posistion it will die. This is due to the way the alarm is wired into the ignition system. If your alarm went south, it may be the cause.

I've had the same problem twice now actually. First time it was the battery and 1 year later is was the AIS module. The 2nd time I took it to the dealer, the guy cleaned it for free. That is/was and probably will be the only time ever in my entire life I got some thing free done at the service department...lol.
