Subject: Squeaking suspension?

I have an 01 RT and when I go over bumps or turn into parking lots..etc. that have curbs (no I don't frive over the curb!!!) the front suspension creaks and groans....

what could be causing this?

Another guy owned it before me...do you think that he may have put in poly bushings and these are groaning??? I doubt it though, it seems like the guy wasn't too brite and I have been correcting his mistakes.

I had the same problem on my 99 R/T. It was the lower ball joints. I replaced them with moogs and haven't had any problems in the past 9 months. I didn't find out until after I replaced the control arm bushings.

2001 QC 4.7 4X4. Same problem here. I had the recall ball joints installed recently and was told the sqeaking was due to dry weather. The mechanic suggested that I just leave it alone and live with the noise. I mentioned silcone lube, the mechanic said that would work for a while but it would eventually start squeaking again. The mechanic also said that any lube will attract dust and create more friction and result in premature wearing of the bushings. It doesn't sqeak nearly as bad when it is wet, so I tend to believe the mechanic. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

it should not be making these noises....my 92 dak never made these sounds even after 12 yeas of driving with the same ball joints and suspension!!!!!

I did not pay this much for this to happen! When I get $100 for warranty deductible you can bet the dealer will fix it

Check your front sway bar bushings..Squirt a little silicone lube in them, and see if that doesn't quiet them.. It did on mine..

Had the same thing going on with my new '04 Quad Sport 4x4 only happened when going in/out of the underground parking at work 15 degree slope. Didn't hear the squeaking every day but after it started it progressed to 3 times/week. Just had 12,000 service done and they silicone lubed the front bushings and noise stopped.
I suspect the dry winter here in the NW, driest in 13 yrs, is causing this never had this happen with my '01 CC 4x4.
Other than this goofy issue the truck has been bulletproof since I got it in Aug. '04

sqeaks are throughout the R/T suspension!! I have an 01, reg cab. I've replaced the shocks, the upper and lower bushings with energy suspension poly, all four ball joints, and that eliminated almost all of them, but now I've learned that after all this expense, that it was mostly from the upper spring insulator!!! I am now hearing some strange rear suspension squeaking too!!! I'm going to go crazy getting them to stop, but I'll hunt em all out!

the best way to hunt them down, is as someone had suggested, spray some wd 40 or other cheap lube, on a friction point, or a point of rotation, then move the suspension in its operation. if its nosiy still, that aint it. if it is quiet, then you found your problem (DER!)

I've torn the whole suspenion of my truck four times now, and am finally about rid of all the squeaks. I only wish someone made a poly upper sring insulator too!

Like Turbostang said, the sway bar bushings are a major contributor to squeaky suspensions, especially if you go with polyurethane bushings. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on suspension components, try spending a few cents worth of lube into the sway bar bushings. You can also buy greaseable sway bar bushings for about $18 a set.

This is an old thread - hoping someone will pick it up.

The squeaky front end in my Dak sounds like a 1850 buggy - with all original parts. Speed bumps make me grind my teeth.

My mech pulled the sway bar and manually greased the bushings - worked beautifully. So I know it's not the ball joints. But the fix only lasted for 60 days.

Rob C - where can these greasable bushings be had? Help! The noise is making me crazy. My cool truck sounds like a POS.
