Subject: Relocating intake temp sensor
IP: Logged

Message:
Whats this I'm hearing about - relocating the intake temperature sensor from the manifold to somewhere in the intake tube? Why would ya need to do this? Is this just for superchargers?

Mod for everyone, even me!
Extend the wires so that you can put it on the oposite side of the air filter box(I put mine on the atmophere side of the filter(if you have one)) or as far away from the exhaust as posible in the intake tube near the filter end.
If you tube is steel your need to drill and tap for 1/4" pipe thread, if it's plastic just drill slightly smaller hole and thread the sensor in.
Have fun, good saturday project.

i have an airaid intake and it has a hole in the tube already for a sensor. Would that work better to move it theer?

Heres what I found surfin for info!!

After relocating the Intake temp sensor - lower temp signals are sent to the ECU which then enriches the fuel/air mixture at WOT (wide open throttle) and slightly advances the ignition timing. The result is increased horsepower/torque if previous airflow-enhancing mods (intake, exhaust) have caused the engine to run lean. The benefit is greater in hot weather conditions.

Guess this will be my next mod!

I'm sure this is overstating the obvious, but don't forget to plug the old sensor location. 1/4" pipe plug and a little teflon tape does the trick.

well...why hasn't anyone mentioned the simple mod. of eliminating the sensor and replacing it with a fixed resistor, so that you tell your engine exactly what temp. you want it to think it is...works great...noticeable difference...

I would rather spend $2 on a Slurpee every 50 miles to make my truck perform at it's best than spend $20 for a $.10 resistor. LOL

There's a reason it's called FLEA'BAY...

well... the sensor is a thermisistor,(a resistor that changes resistance based on temp.)soo...how would placing a fixed resistor in place of it mess up the ??MIL?? my dad did this on his jeep, worked great..my brother is going to try this on his Dakota later today...soo after we give that a shot, i'll let you know how it works...

WOW that guy has some good feedback!

- stole $45 from my paypal account!!! BEWARE!!! product is a 15 cent resistor. CON
- i could of made one of these myself
- only works with cars with seperate intake air sensor but still may not even work
- Seller didn't disclose a possible problem the resistor may cause to my car.
- Not the product advertised! Small transistor, not an actual computer upgrade!
- you should tell everyone it's a .25 cent resistor from raido shack. SCAM SCAM!
- THIS IS NOT A CHIP, IT IS A 3INCH LONG RESISTOR WIRE. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!
- It was just a resistor. It took away so much power. It was so cheap i trashed it
- resistor not a mod chip no extra horsepower...2.00 for shipping with a .37 stamp
- a 50 cent resister and a 37cent stamp, what a waste, don't buy from this scam.

WOW looks like this is a great mod!

I prefer to use a rheostat/potentiometer/variable resistor. They are something $2-3 at radio shack.

The resistor goes in series with the sensor, to offset the sensor resistance a fixed amount.
2.2 to 2.5K will give about a -10* temp change.

I put the stat in place of the sensor or across the connector and completely control the temp input.
