Subject: OEM vs. Others - 02 sensors
IP: Logged

Message:
I've a downstream O2 sensor in Bank 2 with a malfunctioning heater on my 2001/4.7L/Automatic
Dodge quotes the OEM replacement @ $102, but I can get Bosch or Walker sensors for $50-60.
Any recommendations on brand quality vs OEM, and if I replace the sensor with an aftermarket item, will it affect the self-diagnostic results?

Don't get a cheap name brand, I did that about a year and a half ago and it failed already. I have the "Standard" name brand OE PLUS O2 sensors in my truck now and they work flawlessly. I have the genesis computer and it shows that the O2 sensor voltage is going all over the place(that's a good thing). Some ppl are very picky about OE parts if your not aftermarket will work just fine. Go to the Denso web site, real good product for 50-60 bucks a pop. Quick delivery 2-3 days. That was my experience on my buddy's car.

www.ngk.com

I ordered there last year. NTK makes the OEM one for Dodge to begin with, unless it changed in the last couple years. $50 or so for an O2, at least for my GenII anyway.

Nice, I didn't do enough research, sounds like sneezer has the answer for ya. You may pay a little shipping but it's worth the possible 3-5 day wait.

Most dealers will give you a 25% parts discount if you ask for it. If your local stealer won't work with your try tenafly chrysler, they will.

The OEM sensors will have the correct wire lenght and connectors. So it may be worth it to spend slightly more.

Well I ordered the sensor from NTK. Bad mistake.
I ordered a Denso sensor and at first glance it looked the same. The package had been opened and apparently the wrong sensor was placed in the packaging. The index keys on the connector at just slightly different rendering it useless.

I'll have to call and see if the will overnight a replacement or it's over the the Dealership tomorrow.

Addtional update for those interested....
I've misspoken somewhat. I ordered through DENOSPRODUCTS.com. (Same as Sparkplugs.com. Ntk.com. and who knows what else)

Their phone number for returns is disconnected.
Their email address for returns bounces.

Buyers beware.
