Has anyone had their automatic transmission to lose all forward gears except one at once without any prior problems or signs of failure?
My engine light came on and when I went to take off at a red light it was as if I started off in DRIVE.

Ya my 01 4wd 4.7 sport did that this winter. It was rreally cold when it did it though. The check engine light didn't come on right away right? Only when you kept driving? Next time it happens just park and shut off engine and restart, it will most likly be ok. Sorry I don't know the technical details so I wont bore you with cracker head talk. hope this helps

The engine light came on and stayed on and I even stopped and shut it off and it still didn't go away and even after it sat overnight. The temp outside was low 50's to high 40's.

Disconnect battery for bout 5 mins and see if that clears out the code? Notsaying that there's nothing wrong with tranny but I know mine was just a cold fluke thing.

I had the same problem with mine a couple months ago. I disconnected the battery for a while and it was fine. A couple of days ago it did it again and it is doing it everyday now. Yesterday I disconnected the battery for a 1/2 hour and it still did it, so I tried it again and it was ok until this morning. What is going on?
