Subject: NV3500 Tranny problem

I've got a 96 Dak 318 4X4 5 speed. The T-case has been making noise for some time very noticable but I get by, I just bought a rebuild kit and at same time a master rebuild for the tranny. The thing is I just fixed a minor exhaust leak and now I hear the tranny whine fairly loud only under load. I know a fair amount about cars but have never rebuilt a tranny or really learned about diagnosing one. Will I be able to drive it 30 miles a day until fri. with it making these noises? It doesn't sound good, very noticable change in sound from decell to acell, lots of throttle lots of noise. No it's not the engine I dipped in the clutch and it instantly went away. Any advice?

I've rebuilt the t-case before, but not the tranny. T-case was easy.

As far as the tranny rebuild kit, where did you find it? What brand is it? Have 118k mi on my baby, and thinking about rebuilding the nv3500...or swapping in a 4500!

I got it from Zumbrota Bearing and Gear out of Zumbrota minnesota. www.zbag.com It is an excellent manufacturer, they provide nation wide. I work at a local shop in Duluth Mn and have had 3 people mention it to me on different occasions. I guess experience with the product will tell. I'm rubuilding both this weekend, I'll tell you how it goes! The tranny rebuild cost me $150 includes Synchros, bearings, and gaskets. I'm installing my Hurst Short throw at the same time, it's nice, has adjustable stops for second and third gear so you don't over shift and damage the tranny.
