I just had the dealer do the recall on my ball joints today. That is the second set that they put in. The first set was under warranty. When they did the first ones they alligned the truck. This time under the recall they did not allign the truck. Now it pulls hard to the left. I took it right back and they said I would have to pay for an alignment. This does not sound fair to me. Anyone else having the same problems.

Blame DC on this one...... Your dealer gets paid to set the toe ONLY; the rest of the alignment is your responsibility. It's not right, but I'm not suprised.

Well they didn't even set the toe........they slapt on the joints and sent me out the door.
The truck didn't pull when left when I took it in to them. I watched them do the work from the waiting area.....I got screwed.......

The toe adjustment should have been performed. Its part of the recall. Click on this, print it out and show it to your dealer.

PROPERLY performing this recall will not cause any pull in the steering. The toe adjustments are all that is needed for upper ball joint replacement.

Just got my 2002 quad cab back from the dealer for my new balljoints. These are different from the previous ones, they are silver in color and bolted on not riveted, but no grease fittings!!Aligment seams to be good, but I have a funny feeling they swopped my 6week old wearever rotors for some old junky mopar rotors.I`m going to have to take them off and look at the numbers inside of the rotor. If they did swop them, they will feel the rath!!!!

After the email and phone calls to chrysler, they are going to perform a complete 4 wheel alignment on my truck under warranty. They have already informed the dealer, and my appointment is for Tuesday. I will keep you posted.

Are you serious Dan B.? You have to be joking, right? Do you really think that the dealer would steal your 6week old rotors?? LOL! That is insane! Yes the ball joints are different! Would you want the same part installed that was being recalled? Yes they are silver in color, the ones originally fitted to your truck were also this color before they got a coat of rust on them, just like these will. Yes, they are bolted on and not riveted, the dealerships are not provided with the same robotic arm fitted with the hydraulic riveter needed to install the 3/8" rivets in your upper control arm. We use the bolts supplied in the recall kit. No, they do not have any grease fittings, but neither does any other suspension component in your truck! Quit nitpicking the repair and be happy that they replaced them for free and start spending your time on more usefull things like getting a recall issued for your computer's keyboard that made you "falsely" sound like a waterhead!

How do I know if this recall is legit. I have a 2001 quad cab with the same ball joint problems and have still not recieved anything in the mail notifying me of a recall. Is there a number or a website that has this information

Call any dealership with the last 8 digits of your VIN or call DC at the number in your owner's manual. Either way, you will be able to find out if your vehicle has ANY recalls on it.

Jared, if your vehicle is a 4x4, just take it to the dealer and they will do the recall. You do not have to have a recall notice. The dealer will run your VIN and do all of the needed repairs. If you have a 2wd truck you will have to wait for the notice. It seems the 2wd trucks will not get the same recall but will have an extended warranty if the repair is needed in the future. Dealerships do not have any recall info for the 2wd trucks yet.

"If you have a 2wd truck you will have to wait for the notice."

No waiting required. The 2wd's (2000-2003.5) are already protected by a 10yr/100000mile warranty on the upper ball joints, no notice required. If you have upper ball joint failure on the 2wd's, it is covered. ALL dealerships now have a copy of the service bulletin (not a recall) that covers the 2wd's.

I have a 97 dakota with this ball joint problem also. How do you post to DC? I don't care if it has high mileage or not. This is not a recommended, scheduled amintenence item and is the same problem as the 2000 and up models. It is a dangerous problem as a result of poor design, not wear and tear. If there are more out there with 97 models with this problem, please let me know.

I contacted DC Customer service about my 97 ball joint problem and if we continue to hammer them with complaints they might get off their butts and do something. They keep saying - we are not hearing of concerns from many people with a 97. Make the call and lets get some help.

When you replace upper BJ's you don't need to do an alignment, unless they removed the whole hub to do this. I installed my own upper BJ's this weekend with spicer ball joinst with grease fittings. No need to do alignment.

I just got my ball joints replaced--the service tech said that they were offering a $49 dollar alignment (down from $90)since "80% of the trucks being brought in were out of alignment." I laughed..never will I pay them more money to do non-warranty work on my truck.
