First thing I'd check is ignition. My car had a bad spark plug and plug wire and it caused something kind of like that. Under light acceleration it'd bog in a certain RPM range.

Maybe he put a 2000-2500 filter on his ignition.
Maybe his muffler bearing needs greasin' up.
Maybe his exhaust filter is clogged.
Maybe he's low on turn signal fluid.

For his sake let's hope it's not the muffler bearing going bad. I doubt the bearing is totally shot since the engine will make it up to 2500, probably just needs a couple good shots of grease. The Dakota muffler bearings are pretty tough to grease though, it could take a whole day to find the fitting if you don't know where it's located, maybe a week,,, who knows, he may never find it and have the bearing seize up and ruin the engine because of all that back pressure!

jesus christ, simple question.

ptschett, thats what i firgued it could be, but i thought i would get ask to see if any one else has had this problem before. I hope all the jack asses had a good laugh.

well i recently changed out the intake manifold gasket and b-pan gasket. I was burning oil there for about a week.

Could this new studder be from worn/oil plugs? I plan on swapping them out this weekend after using some seafoam. Cant decide which gap to go with on my new plugs, i got the whole msd setup and i am supercharged with a couple of other fuel goodies. I know you are supposed to gap down .05 when you supercharged, but what if your supercharged and have msd?

The gap that i have in there now is .45 and i only get a slight ping when i am around 4500 rpms. Thinking i might run a .40 gap, unless it is suggested to go with the .35

Also, i am looking for a metal air hat because when around 4000 rpm, i can hear my airhat starting to come loose and air leaking out.

no offense sic, but how do you hear your airhat leaking at 4000 rpms?

because at around 4k even with the hood popped open you can see the air hat rise up a little and then of course you hear the air coming out.

any good recomendations on where i should get the aluminum air hat?

thanks!

make one, I did for my cold air intake, two 10 inch dia disks of aluminum with a bent, using a sheet metal roller like you see on the boyd codington show or on American Chopper, piece of aluminum in between to space it out and an open section for the air intake, to match the diameter. then, match drill and tap hole for small, say 8/32 bolts to hold it all together. drill a hole in the middle and then use a saber saw or similar tool to cut a round hole in the middle of one disk for the TB to hook into and fab up an adapter from the air tube to the new air hat, drill a hole to match the holddown bolt and position and install. Of course I have all the right tools and it only took a few hours, but a sheet metal shop could do it for you. then just seal it up with silicon on all the mating surfaces, making sure to not let any that oozed out stay on it as those lumps could get sucked into your engine. IE: wipe it clean of silicon after assembling.

you shouldnt be making any boost if you are standing in front of your truck with the hood open. I am guessing you are in park or neutral to do that... and the supercharger will not make boost without a load on the engine.

not doubting you need an aluminum airhat though

get one from www.turbonetics.com

Dumdest thing I ever heard. The supercharger is driven directly by the engine, typically by a belt. Neither the belt, nor the supercharger know if there's a load on the engine or not.

The supercharger would pump air even if you spun it up with a drill motor,
moron.

Your booster's putting out more than your engine is sucking in. Extra air has to go somewhere. Should be a overboost protection device of some kind there.
What kind of boost pressure you running?

sorry "laughing.. but how many supercharged or turbocharged vehicles have you owned?

no boost is produced unless there is a load on the engine to build the boost.

the supercharger does pump air into the engine.. but the engine is free spinning.. it's not converting the power to anything. There is no resistance on the crankshaft.

dont believe me? go buy a supercharger and find out.

You're wrong, of course.

Because the engine is not doing "real work," does not mean that drive belt isn't turning those blower impellers and creating boost pressure.

Don't make me use the "vacuum cleaner analogy" on you, just to get you to understand this simple concept.
