Hey, i'm thinkin about this exhaust set up for my 318... true duals, 2 1/2" piping, no cats, flomaster super 40's and some 3 1/2" tips.
lemme know what ya think.

Personally, I don't think you'll have enough backpressure with true, 2 1/2" duals and no cats. I recently had my exhaust off to remove my tranny, all I hade was the crossover pipe going to a single out, no muffler of cat. My low end torque dropped through the floor. It felt like I could barely take off from a standstill. Just my two cents.

Thanks....i definately dont want that to happen. So would having a couple cats solve that problem?

At the very minimum at least add some cats. I'm sure you know that you get better gains from exhaust if you complement them with intake mods as well (cold air intake, bigger TB, etc.) Personally, I would think that a single 3" exhaust would be fine with a high-flow cat and muffler (that's what I did on my 828

Might consider taking it to an exhaust shop and see what some others think. I did that and was looking to get some headers and a new y-pipe fabricated. The guy at the shop thought that would definitely be overkill (and I knew he wasn't shooting me BS because he just talked me out of spending about $400 at his shop.)

Just might add that I'm no expert here, you may want to search around and read some other posts, I find that to be quite helpful as well. Good luck.

yeah, got a 97 318 cc.

did 2.5" shorty headers, custom fabbed 2.5" y pipe, 3" cat back dual dumped flowmaster and it's all stainless. I thought about titanium. meh. went ahead and got K&N cold intakes with helix throttle body spacer.

sounds soooooo saweeet...no rice fir me.

"sup mayyun saweet ride dur daaaawwwwg." "Yeah, ain't it purty?" "what'd ya do to tha engine though?"
"eh? whatchoo tawkin bout foo', ya dun mess wit da engine, dat dun make it fastuh!?'"

shoestring, ditch the throttlebody spacer, It ain't helping you one bit, your fuel is introduced at the intake valve not the TB.

Put dual exhaust on the old Snapper mower in the back yard, yesterday, and OH BOY, does it go!!
Next I'm puttin' in a race cam and a cold air intake setup.
Nitrous, maybe?
Then I think I'll lower it so it's down in the weeds, and see what it'll do then!
Yee Ha!!

i have a 95 dakota 318 5-speed w/true dual exhaust 2 1/2 in into an x-pipe and 2-50 series flowmasters, i noticed a HUGE power gain, 1st gear is useless, and most of 2nd.My engine is STOCK from factory w/mopar computes and 3.55 gears.I added headers as well with the exhaust, this truck is fast for what it is.

kaderdak: you ever driven around with open headers?? Yeah no back pressure, add piping with bends and mufflers, there is your back pressure, you dont need a ton.cats on these trucks are useless.

Yeah I drove around with open headers, basically all I had was a manifold with about a foot of pipe after each one. Had less low end torque than my grandma. I don't know exactly how much backpressure it takes to make the engine run it's most efficient. All I know is not enough and you're screwed.

Your right, with little back pressure you have no torque. As far as i know there is no one who posts on this board that runs a true dual set up ,let alone an x-pipe system like mine. All i did to my truck is ehhaust and pulleys, and there is not an r/t that can touch it.Once i uncorked the exhaust and helped back presure with the x-pipe,the trucks runs very hard.X-pipes equallize exhaust pulses for better low end.

hey dude any time you do any kind of mod to get air in or get air out it will boost the power yeah ol kaderdak lost low end torque but he said it him self all he had was manifolds and about a foot of pipe so i think after you put pipe and mufflers it should do great i have a 98 318 5speed dakota it only has one 40series flowmaster one in and two out on 2 1/2 pipe with a aftermarket cat on it and it still dosent flow as good as it can so i think you would be good with your set up

I have tru 2 inch duals on my 89 Shelby Dak. They were
installed by the previous owner. The turck has good low
end torque (3.90 rear). It also has twin cats and twin

Hi all,
I have a 97' dak club cab 318, with 83,000 on er' and just had 3" pip with a 3" Magnaflow High Flow Cat to a single 3" in Flowmaster 40 with dual 2 1/2 " out pip to 3 1/2 " tips,Sounds extreamly nice, loud and throaty, but ever since there has been either a fluttering or like a drum roll type ping from the sounds like left side of engine, only does it when given gas, doesn't matter if a little or a lot of gas, noise continues?....any ideas?...maybe exhaust leak up front?....the new 3" pip start where the manifolds join, could it be valves? Pistons? Any input will be appreciated, thanx.

Anyone know of a good engine builder in Eastern PA or nearby who would be willing to do a high performance rebuild on my Shelby Dak's TBI 318? I tried Ray Barton and they were less than enthusiastic.
