I have a 2000 4.7 V8 4x4. I have had the transfer case replaced 3 times. It hasn't cost me a penny (because I got it replaced under warranty before 36K). I have had 3 transfer case replacement--I now have 89,000 miles. The dodge dealership just ordered me another one. The transfer case keeps leaking real bad, and then when I put it in 4 wheel drive It feels like the chain or gears are popping. I put a new tranny in about 2,000 miles ago so I'm not ready to trade it in or anything. I"m just wondering if anyone knows why My transfer case keeps leaking? I only drive 90 % highway and off road 10% due to hunting and fishing. The last 2 transfer cases have been replaced within the last 6 months. The dealer even put in a new front driveshaft b/c they thought the yoke was causing the transfer case to leak...? BUt it now is leaking witht he new driveshaft. Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful. I'm kinda at their mercy because of warranty.

has it made this popping sound with all the transfers?

are you sure they changed the transfer?sounds like they may have just changed the seal.

my guess bad yoke and/or bad bearing in the transfer on the shaft that runs the front driveshaft, causing the chain to run loose, popping sound

It only had this poping noise on 2 of the 4 transfer cases. I'm positive that they replaced the entire transfer case the last 2 times.

Well everyone. I have an appointment next Weds and the dealer is putting in the 4th transfer case..I'm wondering if anyone has anything that I can possibly tell the dealer--like if you had a similar problem and found a solution. The dealer is trying, I just want it fixed...

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

(I'll post back after Wed when I get the truck back)
