My March of 1999 built Dakota 4x4; doesn't have greasable upper ball joints either. I wonder if I'll be included in the recall.

Yes, as far as I know, that is true. The Dakotas and Durangos that are involved in this recall do not have greased ball joints

Scott, sorry I didn't respond quicker. The whole deal cost me about $250 including the alignment. From the time I pulled my truck into the garage until I had the wheels back on was about 3 1/2 hours. Homez - as long as you buy the Moog "Problem-Solver" ball joints, they should have zerks in them.

Dodge Replacement Ball Joints = Amsoil Grease
IP: Logged

Message:

Unlike OEM Ball-Joints - Replacement Ball-joints have Grease Fittings!

Please consider:

Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease...

equals ... "Unbeatable high-speed/high temperature performance!"

Ultimate protection for hard-driven, high-performance vehicles. Dramatically reduces friction and wear for improved performance. Excels at both high and low temperature performance. Outperforms other conventional and synthetic greases. Product Code: GRG

_______________ _______________

Applications

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Lithium Complex Racing Grease meets the highest performance standards of the National Lubricating Grease Institute, GC for wheel bearing applications and LB for chassis applications.

Load Capacity

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease is an extreme-pressure multi-purpose grease formulated for high-temperature/high-speed applications. Yet, it excels in the protection of low-speed bearings, a job usually reserved for heavy-duty products. Components get the load bearing capacity of a heavy-duty grease without sacrificing the high-temperature protection of a multi-purpose.

Anti-Wear Performance

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease passes the Ford Film Strength Endurance Test with a 16 point margin (see graph). Most nonsolid-fortified racing greases, synthetic or conventional, do not pass. AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease keeps greased components in like-new condition.

All-Temperature Protection

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease pairs a high Viscosity Index synthetic base oil with a top-quality lithium complex thickener, known for its extraordinary performance in temperature extremes. AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease offers excellent low-temperature pumpability and high-temperature consistency for dependable all-temperature protection.

Oxidation Resistance and Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease’s excellent oxidation resistance and robust package of oxidation inhibitors prevent grease breakdown and component surface damage in the highly oxidizing conditions associated with high temperature operations.

Friction Reduction

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease maximizes power through-put and fuel efficiency by minimizing friction. The extra power given by Series 2000 improves acceleration and top-end speed.

Washout Resistance and Corrosion Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease resists water wash out and inhibits rust and other forms of corrosion.

Scott, I also had that same problem on my trk, had to get everything replaced, the ball joints and hub ass'y failed. The popping sound was a result of me accelerating from a stop while turning and the axle rubbing against the contol arm. NOT GOD. I posted it in the Recall thread as well. With the warranty, It still costed me $500 and three days. The mechanic showed me how close the wheel was to falling off, So i paid that price with no hesitation.

The recall doesn't apply to a '97. It's for 2000 -
2003 Dakota's.

Was there a recall on the 2004 Quad Cab 4X4 model? Only asking because I was on my way home from work yesterday and the left front wheel fell off. Good thing I was only going about 30 mph. Could've been much worse.

I worked at detroit diesel reman in cambridge ohio for 118 years and we all get dodge employie disscounts on all cars and trucks I have a dakota 03 sxt 4x4 4.7 magnum ho in 04 I got the recall and all they replaced was the upper balljoints, that is all I have 130,000 on my truck now and have head gasket leaks now and just had all the balljoints replaced and teirod ends done and axles @ my coust.the heads are a worpe problem with just a litle overheating. between cylender 3 and 4 I know what the problems are and where I worked at we found the problem with the hemi's and the valve keeper problem I was one who found that bad designe screw up I know there problems and still stay intouch with friends that work there. Youre overheating is nothing but bad head gasket. take note not a cheep fix unless you can do it yourself.bite the bullet it is not that hard to do if you have any machincal abilty at all and a few friends. and a good tourq wrench and feeler gauges. it is just what you have to do good luck. I have a 2004 Dakota which Dodge supposedly had the ball joint issues figured out. What a crock of horse manure. At 72,000 miles the joints went bad. I checked with the local Dodge dealer and was told there was nothing that they could do as far as a recall or warranty. Also,I have had the front wheel bearings (hub assembly) replaced twice. I will never own another Dodge vehicle.
