Does anyone have any knowledge on the rear end of a r/t being able to fit under a gen 2? And how much modification does it require if any?

As for it fitting yes it will fit,all measurements will be the same,

if i remember correctly, a genII rear end is around 51-52" drum to drum and a genIII rear end is around 56" drum to drum.

The GenIII axle will fit but the shock mounts are in a different place. You will need to reweld the brackets into the correct location. The axle is a little wider, but not by too much. However, I think your bigger problem will be the axle splines. I think the 94 trucks still had a 27 spline axle. GenIII trucks have a 29 spline axle. You may run into problems there as a result. If you are serious about swapping out rear ends, look into adapting an E-body 8-3/4 axle. Much stronger than stock, and parts are plentiful. Check www.bionicdodge.com for a good writeup on how to do it on a GenII truck.

sneezer,

the axle spline count wouldnt really matter if you swapped the whole rear. That would only get in the way if you were changing axles or carriers

Thanks for all the information. I am trying to find a rear end from a R/T so that I can measure things out and see what I have to do. I really dont want to use the 8 1/4 that is in it now. I would hate to sink a bunch of money and time into it and have it just break. I ve heard the 8 1/4's are not all that great to start with. Once again Thanks and any more info would be appreciated.

What year 8 1/4 do you have and how much has been done to it? I know before the 360 was built and put into the truck I grnaded the rear end that came with the truck. Hind sight is 20/20 if I would have thought I was going to go the way I went with this truck I would have solved the problem then. Oh Well. What can you do! Thanks For the responses.
