I have a 93 - 5.2 CC 2wd with 137,000 kms.
How do you know when the cat convertor is plugged, or worn out?
Can anyone reccommend a great sounding muffler-tail pipe combo from the cat convertor back?

your cat would smell like rotten eggs and your truck would be losing power, and for your exhaust i run spintech mufflers and no cat on my 00 dak 4.7.

I have a '93 CC 5.2L. I just cut off the converter and ran 2 3/4 pipe with a Dynomax Super turbo muffler. Sounds great, nice low tone rumble at idle and great during acceleration. Expand the 2 3/4 pipe just enough to get over the y-pipe and weld it on. JEGS also offers a kit with tailpipe and muffler. It also comes with adaptors and extra short pipe from converter back. Cut the original pipe off the back of the converter and it's an easy install. One of the tailpipe hangers was a little long.

Your cat is probably due for a replacement. I did mine last year due to emissions. If you need to replace it get a Magnaflow/Carsound high flow cat. As far as mufflers are concerned Magnaflow has a good sound and power. I prefer it over the Flowmasters. As far as cat back is concerned, don't bother. Get a muffler and have a shop fab up some new pipe. Cheaper than buying a complete cat back system. The gains you may get from mandrel bends in the tubing is pretty minimal anyway, especially on a stock or lightly modded truck.

I would go with Random Technology. All the top aftermarket tuners use them. Like Hennesy, Lingenfelter and some of the other high dollar tuners.

If, it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for me.
