my truck will stall out if i am sitting at a red light or in traffic i have to put it in neutral in order for it to not stall it only stalls in gear kinda weird.. it seems that it is idling to low around like 500-600rpm also i have trouble starting it from time to time it will turn over but not fire. i checked and i have spark and fuel. could the timming be out and have it not start? cause also you can feel it miss when u punch it off the line.. also would the computer retard timming or fuel flow if it was sensing detonation(i dont know if 92s have that kinda technology?) cause it sure seems like it cause other times when u punch it it just wont rev up fast at all kinda stumping me anybody got any suggestions..????
plz help..

The Throttle body IAC-Idle Air Controller on the back side of the TB may need cleaning. It's not uncommon for this to happen.

Maintenance: Cleaning the Throttle Body

Most people think that cleaning the throttle body requires a can of Carb/Throttle Body Cleaner and a quick "wash" of the bores. This may work, but only washes the dirt and cleaner down into your intake manifold where it can puddle up and break down the belly-pan gasket. Then, it also is pulled into the combustion chamber where is can foul up the spark plugs.

The proper way to clean your throttle body is to remove it from the engine (you'll need a small pan, some compressed air, and a new throttle body gasket for this procedure):

1. Remove your air hat from the throttle body
2. Disconnect the sensor connectors (TPS, MAP, and IAC)
3. Remove the four throttle body bolts
4. Lift the throttle body up and away from the intake manifold (place a rag over the manifold opening to prevent anything from falling inside)
5. Remove the three sensors (Do not drop them)
6. Remove the three screws for the throttle linkage (Not required...can be done with linkage attached)
7. Place the throttle body in a small pan and spray Carb/Throttle Body Cleaner in the bores, underside passages, and ports. Let soak for about a minute.
8. Clean the IAC Solenoid - Refer to How to Clean the IAC Solenoid.
9. Spray some more Carb/Throttle Body Cleaner in the bores and ports of the throttle body.
10. Wipe clean with a lint free rag (baby diaper works well) and blow out all the ports with some compressed air (a small can from a electronics store works just fine).
11. Reinstall all sensors, then reinstall on your vehicle with a new Throttle Body gasket (don't forget to remove the rag).

Maintenance: Cleaning the IAC Solenoid

This is recommended at every Tune-Up to prevent excess carbon buildup on the IAC plunger. In some cases, you'll notice a slightly erratic idle quality. This is the first step in taking care of that problem. IAC = Intake Air Control (Solenoid).

1. Remove the Air Hat from the Throttle Body
2. Disconnect the sensor harness from the IAC Solenoid (Rear of Throttle Body)
3. Remove the two Torx-25 Screws
4. Remove the IAC Solenoid (Be careful not to lose the rubber O-Ring)
5. Spray some Carb/TB Cleaner in the IAC port on the Throttle Body and let it sit.
6. Spray some Carb/TB Cleaner on the tip of the IAC Solenoid and wipe clean (Do NOT forcefully twist or push the plunger - You will damage the Solenoid. Wipe very gently.)
7. Spray a little bit more Carb/TB Cleaner in the IAC port on the Throttle Body and wipe clean with a thin/lint-free rag
8. Reinstall the IAC Solenoid (Make sure you don't lose the rubber gasket on the solenoid)
9. Reinstall the sensor connector and airhat
10. Start the engine and let idle for about 1 minute.

clean the throttle body and the IAC and now she doesnt stall no more in traffic thanks... I bought a new fuel filter and went to repalce the old one and i couldnt find it.. i looked harder and the guy that owned the truck before me took it out.. not very smart choice...it still has a little miss sumetimes under wide open throttle, but i will let the dealer look at that.. also does anybody know the price that a dealer would charge to finish an exhaust from just before the rear axle back? My exhaust ends at my two mufflers before the axle and want i want dual exit.. I could make it my self just know way of bending it..

Better check your intake for a blown gasket too. Pretty common on these engines. If your TB was really gunked up it was probably blown. Will need to be replaced or you will continue sucking oil, which contributes to the pinging and will clog up your IAC again over time.

i know this a old thread but hoping someone can help me Ive tried so many different things so far to make this truck idle or not stall when changing from P or N to D or R i got the truck from a guy that said it was just not in time from that day we found that he had replaced the timing chain and it is sitting on TDC on the compression stroke weve verfied that the plug wires are on right we have replaced the bent rods he had in it 6 of em. it actually wouldnt start before i befan messing with it and discovering these things. now it runs as long as you hold your foot on the gas sometimes it will run drop real low idle and catch itself and come back up and idle for a second but then eventually it just putters itself to death. I took off the TB cleaned it took off the IAC the throttle sensor and the map and i replaced all 3 the IAC was from a junk yard as well as the throttle sensor. it was throwing a 13 map sensor code so i replaced it and it idled for about 2 mins and then same thing. next i found the dist cap was crackd so i replaced it and then the bolt broke off in the distrbuter. pulled the distributer out got the bolt out hooked everything up and then got the EGR error 32 along with the 13 i pulled the EGR off and the top port was closed off with rust it looked like i poked a nail through the tube and rinsed it out with carb cleaner installed it and now both codes are gone but the truck still will not idle now it is sucking really loud right above the IAC port in the back of the TB Ive not heard this truck run so dont know if it should sound this way or is this a sign the IAC i put on it is bad and stuck? even though its not throwing a code? any other suggetions how to fix this cheaply? cause its already becomeing expensive quick.
