Subject: 99 auto to manual tranny conversion ?'s
IP: Logged

Message:
Having spent the better part of Sunday night reading up on the topic, I'm left with some unanswered questions. Having done a swap out on my '96 Impala ( a car that doesn't come stock with a 6-speed ) changing out the stock crap-o-matic on my 1999 5.2L SLT 4x4 club cab seems like it will be a breeze. So here's what I'm left scratching my head about:

1. Driveshaft length - can the one currently on my truck still be used when converted over to manual? Keep in mind I have a 4x4.

2. Crossmembers - the crossmembers are different for the tranny's - right? I'm guessing I will have to get one for the manual as well.

3. Parts needed - guessing since it's a hyd. clutch, the laundry list is similar to the "upgrade" I did on my impala. But every make/model is different. MoPar p/n's would be great.

4. possible donors - what year & model dak's can I get parts from? Obviously, a 99 SLT 4x4 with a 5.2L would be ideal, but would guess other models & years would suffice.

5. 6 speed or 5? - I've seen a few different trannys mentioned. Is the NV 3500 the one I'm after? Looking for the one that came stock. Any clues as to what to look for when shopping for the tranny?

I initally plan on looking in the junk yards & other places for parts. Hopefully, I can find 1 junked truck for parts & go to town on it! Not looking to go aftermarket (yet), just want to use stock parts for my project.

Thanks in advance for any help you all can lend me.

The NV3500 will bolt right up to your 5.2. I just got all the parts needed for this swap into my 99 3.9. Heres what you'll need, NV3500(Got mine out a 01 Ram 1500), flywheel(engine specific), pedal assembly, clutch hydrolics, Pilot bearing and sleeve, clutch kit, man trans crankshaft position sensor. The driveline in a man truck is longer than the auto, atleast in my swap it is 7in longer so you will need a different DL. You will have to have your computer flashed to a manual truck or get a 5.2 manual comp, if not you will have a CEL problem. Here is a good read on the swap http://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota/191960-46rh-to-nv3500-swap-5-2l-4x4.html
