Hi.. I have a 92 318 magnum dakota, and it has like a slight miss/bog, when u hammer down on it.. but other times its fine. I ran a scanner on it and the scanner showed no problems (i thought low fuel pressure or O2 sensor or sumtin) but that wasnt the case. I was told it might be the bushing on the distrbutor i checked it and it had marginal play on it. the dealer told me that it should have a little bit(is that correct?) I changed the cap and rotor the old ones were warn out but she still misses a bit.. the timing chain is a new double roller chain. and its fine.. I just cant figure out this problem it has been stumping me for days.. if anybody knows any possiblities of what could be wrong plz let me know.. this problem is one big itch i cant scratch..
thanks in advance..
Trent

need to check your fuel sync, and some play in that bushing is normal, but not alot, if you have alot of play have that bushing replaced its a common problem with a fairly simple fix. You will probably have to take it to a dealer though, they use a special tool to drive the bushing in, i've tried doing it without the tool and its next to impossible

well i have been driving it for the past few days. i am waiting for dealer to get back to me on the bushing/gear. The truck runs great on the highway, i can hammer down with no problems to pass ppl and burry the needle without trouble.. i can also drive in the city fine if i am driving like a normal person. The miss/studder occurs when i hammer it down off the line only? I find it weird. Im not too sure if its the gear or not. anybody have any suggestions??

that sounds like a fuel problem to me... had the same problem with a 68 mustang i worked on restoring. either a sensor isn't letting the fuel rise early enough or your fuel pump might be the problem.

Trent....The problem you are having is very common for that combination. I own a '92 Dakota,318 mag/Auto that I purchased new for bracket racing. My truck right off the showroom floor had this condition. I baselined the stock performance when new and it ran a 14.84 @ 2300ft. and had the same "stumble" that you described. The fuel condition at idle is very lean and requires a fairly hot spark to ignite the fuel mixture, when the throttle is suddenly slammed open the throttle body has to switch from the idle motor to the actual throttle bores which gives you an even "leaner" hole in your fuel curve til the fuel "catches up"......2 things help....first, anything that affects the spark output needs to be kept in top shape or better{ I upgraded mine to a Jacobs ignition system with their best coil and plug wires} the other thing to do is never leave from a dead idle....hold the brake, slowly bring your rpm up to 1200 or so {practice this, 1500 is stock stall},this gets you off the idle motor so the computer doesn't have the big transition from idle to full throttle.....I don't know how long you have had your truck, but try this and see what happens, after more than 1100 1/4 mile passes my truck just keeps on going strong......
